    Clean, quiet home; imperfect memory-care

I work here and see a very clean, quiet 10-resident home with professional, knowledgeable owners and compassionate, friendly staff - residents (including my mom) love the freshly prepared food and the attentive care. That said, the house manager can be unprofessional and often distracted by their phone, ownership isn't always present on the floor, and there have been safety/overnight-check and stimulation concerns for advanced memory-care residents. Overall, a loving, affordable small community with great meals and caregivers, but not ideal if you need intensive memory-care or strict night checks.

    About Redwood R & R

Redwood R & R, licensed by California (License #: 126804144), is a senior living community designed for small groups, with room for up to 14 residents, and has over 16 years of experience in elderly care, including 13 years for this home under the management of Shadie Aragon and the ownership of Eric and Heather Eichin, who're longtime McKinleyville residents, and you'll find that English-speaking caregivers support residents day and night, with on-site RNs, LPNs, and visiting health professionals, so no matter what level of care a resident needs, from light help to heavier hands-on support, medication management, or help with bathing, dressing, and transfers-there's always someone around, even for standby and mechanical lift transfers, or for residents who're non-ambulatory or have significant behavior or memory needs. Community amenities include walking paths and gardens for those who like to be outdoors, alongside laundry, housekeeping, fireplaces in common rooms, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, TV lounge, outside patio, and enclosed courtyard, and those who need to get out can count on complimentary and paid transportation, resident parking, and access to the busline. Residents enjoy meals prepared on site, served restaurant-style or as room service, with a lot of diet choices-gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, low sodium, low sugar, and options for diabetes and allergies-and guest meals are available too, so no one needs to worry if their diet is a little different. Every room comes furnished with phones and there's a choice among private and semi-private accommodations, with private baths and wheelchair-accessible showers for those who need them, and lots of little comforts to make life feel homier, including shared meals, social activities, scheduled movie nights, and a full calendar of outings, intergenerational programs, devotional services, and religious services onsite or offsite. Redwood R & R offers care for seniors with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia in a dedicated, secured building, with bracelets and a computerized system that alert staff if a resident tries to leave or wanders into unsafe areas-a good solution for those who tend to get confused, exit-seek, or have behavioral concerns that make care elsewhere hard, and staff get special training to help with these needs, including calming residents who might act out physically or who need help staying safe. Life here aims to support residents' dignity and independence while offering specialized plans-including personal growth activities, Breakthrough Mind Gym Coaching, Meditation Mind Gym Training, and Healing Arts systems for balance, energy, and focus-to help residents stay active and improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being, and they do all this while keeping pricing and fees straightforward, so families know what to expect without any surprises. Redwood R & R sits inside a neighborhood setting, creating a family feel that helps everyone-from the resident to the staff and visiting families-form deep and lasting ties, and their team works with doctors, hospitals, Hospice of Humboldt, and community partners, so if a resident needs hospice or a respite stay, or if medical or behavioral care needs change, everything's handled on site and there's no need to move out. This place tries to make sure that seniors of all care levels and backgrounds can get the support they need to stay safe, feel connected, and keep as much independence as possible while enjoying life among peers.
