    Caring staff, poor hygiene, pricey

I want to start by saying the staff are wonderful - warm, attentive 24/7, felt like family, great communication (Gina helped), tasty meals, good activities, and skilled with memory-care needs. However, the facility feels outdated and noisy (alarmed doors, overhead paging), cleanliness and housekeeping were inconsistent (urine odor, dirty carpets, cluttered rooms), and visitation/policies felt restrictive with some staff treating residents condescendingly. It's expensive for what you get - I ultimately pulled my mother out due to finances and hygiene concerns, though I still truly appreciated the caregivers.

    About Fremont Village

Fremont Village sits at 38801 Hastings Street in Fremont, California, and offers care for seniors who need independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, or memory care, and the place is licensed for up to 90 residents, so you'll find a mix of studio, single-room, semi-private, and two-bedroom units, each having kitchens or kitchenettes, full kitchens with a stove and refrigerator, in-suite laundry, cable TV, and individually controlled heat and air conditioning, while some units welcome pets like a dog or cat, and folks who want companionship or more independence can both find what they need. The rooms and buildings use safety and handicap features like sprinkler systems and emergency response systems, making the space safe, and Fremont Village provides daily housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, and maintenance services, so residents don't have to bother with chores. The big dining room serves three homemade meals each day, and staff can help with special diets for diabetes or high blood pressure, and residents get help with bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, medication support, and even diabetic care including insulin injections and blood sugar tests, so care ranges from light supervision to heavy care with full nursing and behavioral management.

There's always 24-hour staff, including nursing care and skilled staff trained for memory care, so folks with Alzheimer's or dementia can get help with wandering or confusion, as well as tailored activities and therapy like memory care programming, music therapy, pet therapy, arts and crafts, group games, and outdoor relaxation in courtyards or lounges, plus physicians, podiatrists, wound care, and therapists come onsite regularly. Fremont Village has a fitness center, guest parking, free Wi-Fi, movie and activity rooms, devotional services onsite and offsite, a beauty salon and barbershop-sometimes even a traveling barber or stylist for those who have trouble going out-and there's an activity schedule with music, games, movie nights, spiritual care, and educational programs to keep folks active and involved. There's outdoor spaces, a book room, jacuzzi, sauna, and health room, along with spaces for social activities, and if anyone likes outings, complimentary transportation gets residents to appointments, errands, worship, or local shopping within a 7-mile area, with a Walgreens pharmacy and parks close by.

Residents with health challenges like bowel incontinence or trouble moving around get support, including mechanical lifts and help for non-ambulatory folks, and Fremont Village manages assisted transfers and personal care for those who need it, so levels of care range from light to total assistance, with memory care always available as needed, plus hospice and respite care for short- or longer-term stays, and staff work to make sure people maintain dignity and as much independence as possible. Fremont Village is wheelchair accessible, serves ages 55 and older, allows outdoor smoking but not inside, and provides a safe, comfortable environment where residents stay long-term if they wish, building a sense of community. Residents often say the staff are caring and helpful, and people can stay for as short as a respite stay or as long as they choose, so there's always an emphasis on health, well-being, and keeping life simple for seniors.
