    Unsafe, overpriced facility with problems

I toured the place and liked the diverse options, easy visiting, outings, friendly residents and Spanish/English mix. Rooms felt small (sometimes two beds), the building is old, I noticed tobacco odor and inconsistent cleanliness. Meals were well-balanced and the AC worked. Staff were mostly helpful, but some office staff were unfriendly, follow-up was poor, I saw bullying, appointment no-shows, and safety felt neglected. I was alarmed by a reported resident found dead in a tub and unclear staff response-they should hire CNAs for showers. At about $1,600/person, I think the pricing is too high and I would not recommend it.

    About Golden Manor Retirement Center

Golden Manor Retirement Center sits in the Civic Center District at 1109 West Beverly Blvd., Montebello, CA 90640, where folks will notice that the community offers assisted living, independent living, memory care, nursing care, and respite care all under one roof, and the staff there really do try to look out for everyone, whether you need help with dressing, bathing, walking, taking medicine, or just someone to check in on you during the day or night with that 24-hour call system. The nurses and caregivers know how to help those with different needs, including people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, and they set up care plans and activities that are meant to give the right support and safety; for people who need skilled nursing, wound care, medication support, or things like occupational therapy, that's all available, too, so when families come to visit, they can tell there's care being given, even if some days are tougher than others.

The rooms at Golden Manor come furnished, most with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, air conditioning, cable TV, wifi, and are easy to manage if you need a wheelchair or extra help getting around, plus there are washers and dryers to keep things clean and kitchens for those who still like to cook a little; some people want apartment-style setups, others just a comfortable room, and those choices are here. Around the property, residents find a dining room, fitness room, salon, spa, library, computer center, game room, and a garden or outdoor space, which makes it easy to keep busy or just sit somewhere peaceful. There's an emergency alert system, a sprinkler system for safety, concierge services, and move-in help if you need it, and transportation is on hand for shopping trips, outings, or medical appointments.

Meals at Golden Manor come from a professional chef, with menus designed to fit special diets or nutritional needs, and both one or two meals a day can be arranged, while meal planners try to make sure that everyone has what they need to stay healthy; a lot of residents appreciate that the dining experience is a big part of daily life, and the dining staff are known to be cheerful and friendly. People don't get left sitting around for long, because there's a wide mix of group activities like crafts, educational programs, fitness classes, movie nights, and even devotional activities, as well as offsite excursions if you feel up to it, which means you can have as much company or as much quiet as fits your mood. The center also adds services like laundry, housekeeping, maintenance, and help with bathing, dressing, and things like non-ambulatory care or incontinence care, which takes pressure off families.

Family members can read educational articles on elder care and safety, find information about other senior communities, or use the online "connect" feature to set up a tour or an assessment, and the staff will explain costs, contract terms, move-in steps, or if there's a waiting list. Staff speak English and are known for being joyful and kind, and the community's review score, hovering near 9.7 out of 105 reviews, is a sign that most residents and their loved ones feel cared for here, even if no place is ever perfect. Golden Manor Retirement Center welcomes older adults needing a safe, helpful place to live and does its best to make people comfortable, supported, and as independent as possible each day.
