    Modern facility, caring staff; pricey

I moved my mom here and overall I'm pleased - the brand-new, spotless facility is modern, pet-friendly, with excellent meals and a huge range of activities. The staff are wonderful, friendly and responsive; housekeeping and many caregivers go above and beyond. That said, frequent staff turnover, short-staffing and inconsistent management mean occasional missed cleanings, cancelled activities and uneven medication/care. Pricing is higher than expected with regular annual increases, so it's worth it only if you can afford it long term. I recommend it for the warm community and quality amenities, but watch staffing and costs closely.

About Merrill Gardens at West Covina

Merrill Gardens at West Covina offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care under one roof, and the building has plenty of light and some natural wood accents, which helps give it a nice feel along with a touch of neighborhood charm and what some call urban chic decor, and if you head up to the rooftop terrace you can look out over the city, maybe chat with friends or just get some sunshine, because there are all sorts of gathering spaces throughout the community for social activities or just a quiet moment, and things like activity rooms and common areas make it easy to spend time with others if you want to. Folks who like pets will be glad to know pets are welcome, and the building is built with handicap access and Wi-Fi, so most needs are covered. There are 55 different floor plans, so residents have a choice in how and where they live, and the community itself has won awards like Best of Senior Living and Best Activities in Senior Living, which usually points to staff and programs people like and attend. The dining area is set up restaurant-style, with flexible hours and meals planned by chefs, and they say the kitchen focuses on good ingredients and tasty food. Merrill Gardens at West Covina supports active, social living for independent seniors, and for those who need more help, there are assisted living services offering aid with bathing, dressing, grooming, and medicine reminders, all set up to fit each person's unique daily needs, so people feel safe but aren't losing their independence when they don't need it. For seniors living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, dedicated memory care helps make life a bit easier, since there are spaces made to reduce confusion or wandering, plus caregivers trained in specialized programs, and they regularly add activities and routines to help with wellness, movement, and engagement. For folks who want or need skilled care, there are licensed staff on site, and resources for caregivers and for non-medical home care too. The community tries to connect everyone with their loved ones, and if anyone's thinking about moving in, they do offer community tours so people can see daily life or even join an activity or meal before making a decision. For seniors who prefer to live with less worry and more company, but with privacy and independence when they want it, Merrill Gardens at West Covina covers quite a few options, and the family-owned company running the community tries to make people feel welcome while giving support where needed.
