    Mom thriving at Sunol Creek

I placed my mom at Sunol Creek and, after a short adjustment, she's thriving - comfortable, more energetic, and having fun. The staff and management are warm, compassionate, dementia-knowledgeable, and often go above and beyond; communication is attentive and proactive. The facility is beautiful, clean, with great food and engaging activities - it's pricey and I've seen occasional staffing/communication hiccups, but overall I'm grateful and would recommend it for memory care.

    About Sunol Creek Memory Care

Sunol Creek Memory Care sits about a mile from downtown Pleasanton and has served the area since 2014 as a stand-alone memory care community, welcoming folks with Alzheimer's, dementia, or Lewy Body dementia. The building's single story and secure layout help keep residents with memory loss safe, and the whole place is purpose-built for memory care, so there are helpful features like integrated nurse call systems, delayed egress exits, and special bracelets that prevent wandering. There are three different floor plans with private rooms, all designed for comfort and accessibility, and the team works to adjust care as needs change so seniors can age in place. Every room and hallway gets plenty of natural light, and there are secure courtyards, circular indoor walking paths, and activity rooms, which really do create an inviting, homelike atmosphere with two smaller, close-knit neighborhoods.

People at Sunol Creek can use the beauty salon, enjoy restaurant-style meals from a professional chef-with special diets like low sodium or low sugar as needed-and join in housekeeping, yoga, Tai Chi, art classes, karaoke, gardening, Wii bowling, and wine tasting. Residents don't have to join in if they don't feel like it, but there are always things happening, such as club meetings, cooking classes, visits from children and pets, trips outside, and celebrations for holidays and family gatherings. For those wanting spiritual support, there are worship services, meditation, music appreciation, and aromatherapy. Wi-Fi's available throughout the community, and you'll see a comfortable lobby, cozy living rooms, dining spaces, and even a community room meant to help people feel at home.

There are caregivers and licensed staff on-site 24/7, including a nurse, and a doctor on call, so medical care and complex medication management, including insulin administration, are possible. The team offers physical support, even for residents needing one- or two-person transfer assistance, uses mechanical lifts as required, and can care for those who have a tendency to wander. The community provides specialized plans for each person, with an emphasis on promoting autonomy and self-esteem, and there's a notable focus on aging in place and keeping residents as independent as possible for as long as possible.

Montessori-inspired activities, the signature SPARK program-recognized for excellence-and the LifeCycles Wellness Program aim to keep residents engaged in mind, body, and spirit. You'll find educational classes, crafts, trivia, games, baking, and supervised trips to help stimulate interest and keep days meaningful. The property's secure and easy to get to, especially for families in the East Bay, and provides respite and hospice care when needed. Sunol Creek's main goal is to offer compassionate, personalized, and safe care for people living with dementia in a clean, well-kept, and homelike environment.
