    Caring staff but inconsistent hygiene

I have mixed feelings. Front-line caregivers here are kind, attentive, and I've seen quick maintenance, lots of activities, roomy private rooms and honest personalized care that gave our family peace of mind. But administration and management can be dishonest or unresponsive, staffing is frequently short (long waits and weak after-hours coverage), and cleanliness/safety are inconsistent - reports of mice, urine smell, dirty carpets, even scabies or bruising make me wary. Food is hit-or-miss: often processed/salty or inedible, though the kitchen has improved lately and can accommodate diets. I'd recommend this place if you value caring staff and reasonable cost, but go in cautious about admin, hygiene, and staffing issues.

    About Braswell Family Senior Care

Braswell Family Senior Care sits beside the San Bernardino Mountains in Yucaipa, California, and has been family-operated since 1963 with a focus on loving care. The facility holds a state license for serving seniors and offers assisted living, independent living, memory care, nursing services, and a continuing care retirement community. Residents can choose between private studio apartments, companion suites, and shared homes, and there are options for respite care, adult day programs, and long-term services at places like Chateau Villa. The Pine Cottage memory care unit has 12 licensed beds with 24-hour awake dementia trained staff and secured wandering grounds to let residents explore safely. The community cares for those with physical, cognitive, or memory needs, including help with dressing, bathing, grooming, incontinence care, and medication, and diabetic or non-ambulatory care are both available. Medically trained staff are on site at all times to ensure proper treatment, and a nurse remains on duty all hours.

Residents join activities like music with the resident band, arts and crafts, a gardening group, social games, and lectures, with a story time and educational programs available for mental engagement, and the program tries to enhance cognitive abilities while still letting each person keep as much independence as possible. People can spend their time in the gym, game room, spa and wellness room, or walk through gardens and use the outdoor gazebo, and animal lovers enjoy the pet aviary with many birds, plus interaction with farm animals such as emus, llamas, cows, and rabbits in the activity areas. Pets like dogs and cats are allowed. The grounds have landscaped, home-like neighborhoods designed to reduce chores, and common areas come with TVs, cable wired rooms, libraries, and patios.

Family members can stay in touch through the facility's special communication services, and transportation and a community bus are on hand for shopping, sightseeing, and doctor appointments, with staff able to provide appointment companion services. Meals get planned and prepared by chefs, and community dining areas are open to everyone, with multiple meal plan options. Housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning are included. There's space for private family events. Residents can get haircuts and barber services, and personal care needs like assistance with dressing, showering, medication, and toileting get managed by staff who stay ready 24/7. The community bus, parking, and nearby healthcare options, including a doctor and pharmacy within a mile, help make life easier.

Braswell Family Senior Care gives mental health care, support for VA benefits, advice for finances, and cost assistance programs, and accepts checks and credit cards. The place welcomes both seniors and people with disabilities and aims to keep everyone as involved and independent as they can be, with resources for assistive devices, bedside emergency calls, and a behavioral health recovery center. Staff encourage resident-run and community-sponsored activities so people feel connected. Chapel services and religious programs are provided in-house for those who want them. The facility's "Quality Care with Love" philosophy guides staff as they monitor and improve their work, and every resident follows a care guide tailored to their needs. The Braswell group also runs Mediterranean Gardens and Leisure Manor locations in the area, giving choices for different preferences.

Admissions are available any time, with regular office hours during the week. Licensed for up to 36 residents, Braswell Family Senior Care remains a place with a home-like, warm environment run by a loving staff, where the main goal is to help people live safely, happily, and as independently as possible throughout their golden years.
