    Excellent dementia care, attentive staff

I'm very pleased with this small, family-owned memory care - the staff are kind, attentive and hands-on, the place is spotless and secure, and the dementia-focused care feels excellent. My loved one adjusted well and enjoys lots of activities (bowling, crafts, music, exercise), friendly pets, and home-cooked, nutritious meals. Medical coverage and personalized attention (24-hr nursing, MD director, owner involvement) give me confidence. Downsides: limited private rooms, tight parking, and occasional communication/management hiccups.

    About Palm Villas Memory Care

Palm Villas Memory Care in Redwood City is a family-owned place that focuses only on memory care, so the whole facility is set up for people with Alzheimer's or dementia and those who need care for memory problems, and you'll notice the secure grounds, the locked entries, and the open landscaping meant to help residents feel calm and safe, with little Maltipoo puppies, cats and dogs around, and even a bird sanctuary and fish tanks to lower anxiety. The founders Garry and Michael Sneper built Palm Villas as a home-like setting, and you'll hear staff referred to as 'family,' which speaks to the way they try to make everyone feel comfortable and known, and with decades of experience they hire staff who are trained in Alzheimer's care and memory care techniques-you'll see many long-term staff working with residents, giving help as needs change, whether that means help dressing, full care, or setting up personalized care plans for changing conditions. Staff members offer help with medication, mental health, skilled nursing, diabetic care, hospice, and respite care, and folks can get podiatry or see a doctor or dentist as needed, while still keeping a sense of routine with activities like Tai Chi, Wii bowling, weekly manicures, story time, a musical group, book clubs, gardening, arts and crafts, bingo, yoga, a cooking club, and game nights, all managed on a schedule designed for cognitive stimulation. There are social and spiritual opportunities with onsite devotional services and varying language support for English, Hindi, Tagalog, or Spanish, and no matter the background, people are encouraged to stay social and engaged. The meals are fresh, nutritious, and tailored to each person, with vegetarian choices, and the monthly rotating menus ensure changes so food doesn't get boring, with a culinary staff always thinking about what works for each person's needs. Rooms can be private or semi-private, some wired for cable and internet, with housekeeping and laundry services every day, and options for room service, so cleaning is a big part of how they keep things tidy, which is something families notice. There are indoor common rooms with TVs, a dining hall, outdoor patios and gardens, and an arts and crafts area where residents can join a gardening group, or just sit and enjoy the sun if they like. Palm Villas is pet-friendly, allowing some resident pets, but also having animals around just to visit, along with wheel-chair accessible showers, no-smoking policies, and transportation options for nearby public transit or guest parking. Residents must be at least 55, and there are both men's and women's units, each with their own care structure. Caregivers can help with incontinence, non-ambulatory care, and support with changing levels of memory or functional ability, and the building remains licensed by the state. The place has a reputation for being clean and cheerful, and people say the meals are especially good, and while the pricing is all-inclusive, the main thing Palm Villas emphasizes is the well-being, safety, and happiness of people living with dementia, building on a philosophy of social connection, meaningful daily activities, and a comfortable secure place to live, all under the watch of attentive staff that really treat people with respect over the years, so families know there's stability and a steady approach to care.
