About Irene Swindells Center for Adult Day Services

The Irene Swindells Center for Adult Day Services, located on California Pacific's California Campus, offers a secure and home-like floor that's distinct from the main hospital, giving adults a supportive place during the day. This center serves adults with disabilities and seniors, including those with mild to moderate memory loss, and has special attention for people with Lewy Body Dementia. The program runs weekdays, opening at either 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning and closing at 3:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon, depending on the site, and covers locations in San Francisco, Oakland, San Rafael, Los Altos, and Morgan Hill across Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties.

People come here for wheelchair accessible spaces, all-inclusive healthcare, counseling, and psychology programs, along with home care and community living services. Residents can use a Friendship Line to connect with others and have access to a helpline for support seven days a week, twelve hours each day, backed by a team that includes social work assistants and executive directors. The center's activities help with physical health and memory, offering fitness schedules, music, creative programs, animal therapy, tabletop games, regular movie nights, and community events, not to mention a book room, jacuzzi, sauna, hairdresser, and outdoor garden spaces that let people get fresh air and talk together. Transportation is available for medical appointments, shopping, or spiritual needs.

Rooms are either private or semi-private, with large bathrooms and lots of light, and the place is built so people feel safe but not isolated. There's a focus on helping folks stay independent as long as possible, offering memory care, respite care, hospice care, and assisted living services, all licensed by the State of California. This center was developed by California Pacific Medical Center with help from the Institute on Aging, aiming to improve adults' quality of life with programs for mental and physical stimulation, as well as helping caregivers, especially those caring for someone with Lewy Body Dementia. Staff are used to supporting people with memory or physical challenges, keeping routines comfortable but structured, and anybody interested can schedule a tour, meet staff and residents, see photos, and get a good feel for the environment.
