    Lovely facility, inconsistent care oversight

I moved my father into a brand-new, nicely designed Cupertino facility with bright, comfortable rooms, delicious nutritious meals, lots of activities, and many compassionate, approachable staff who are quick to address concerns. However, management is disorganized: chronic understaffing (especially on memory care/second floor), inconsistent/poorly trained caregivers, spotty family communication, ad-hoc processes and billing errors/surprise charges - we even hired private help; lovely place overall, but the level of care can vary and needs stronger oversight.

    About Sunrise of Cupertino

Sunrise of Cupertino sits in the heart of Silicon Valley, not far from downtown Sunnyvale, and you'll find it's a place that welcomes people 55 and over into a friendly community where everyone feels like family, and you'll see staff helping out with a joyful attitude, treating residents, visitors, and each other with genuine kindness, which is nice these days. The community provides many different living options, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, short-term stays, hospice care, and Dignity Home Care services, so whether someone's looking for support with daily activities, help with medications and personal care, or specialized care for Alzheimer's or dementia, there's a level of service to meet those needs, and the trained team makes sure to personalize each care plan, adjusting for everyone as their needs change. There's memory care specially designed for residents with cognitive challenges, and programs like Reminiscence and Terrace Club aim to keep everyone safe while providing activities that keep the mind and body engaged, and there are always friendly faces looking out for those who need extra help.

Residents can choose from comfortable studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom suites, and each apartment welcomes personal touches to feel more like home, and with an in-suite emergency call system, basic cable, utilities, and Wi-Fi included, you can rest easy knowing the basics are covered. People enjoy three fresh meals daily, planned and cooked by in-house chefs who care about balanced nutrition, and seasonal dining means there's always something different to try, with menus changing as ingredients become available. Social spaces, rooftop gardens, outdoor courtyards, and high-speed Wi-Fi let everyone find their own favorite spot or activity, and the calendar's always full with fitness, recreation, outings, and events that help folks stay active and connected, because social, physical, mental, and emotional well-being really do matter. There's scheduled transportation for appointments and outings, so getting where you need to go doesn't become a hassle, and with secure parking for those who drive, it's easier for family and friends to visit.

Weekly housekeeping, laundry, and linen service mean less to worry about, while daily trash removal keeps things tidy, and with on-staff nurses checking in monthly for wellness and pharmacists reviewing medications every quarter, folks get ongoing health oversight, which brings some peace of mind, especially as we get older. Even pets are welcome, since the community knows animals are important companions for many people. Sunrise of Cupertino stands as a licensed and state-compliant facility, recognized by the Best of Senior Living Award, and though awards are nice, what seems to matter most is that people here can enjoy companionship, a safe and interesting environment, and the right mix of independence and support, in a setting that tries to make every day meaningful-some days busy, some days restful, and always a place that feels caring.

    About Sunrise Senior Living

Beginning with a single community in 1981, there are now more than 280 Sunrise Senior Living communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Each of our communities maintains the mission laid out by Sunrise founders Paul and Terry Klaassen more than 40 years ago: to champion quality of life for all seniors. The Klaassens’ vision to redefine senior care resulted in a resident-centered approach to care that focuses on the individuality of each resident and has set the standard in the assisted living industry. We are defined by our people. Our team of serving hearts are guided by our mission, Principles of Service and Values – all of which help encourage independence, preserve dignity and enable freedom of choice for each resident.
