    Compassionate attentive care with caveats

I placed my mom at Hillcrest and am relieved - the staff (especially Marian and several long-tenured caregivers) are warm, attentive and treat residents like family. The food is good, activities are nonstop (music, exercise, bingo, movies, outings) and the facility is very clean with helpful, responsive office staff. Rooms feel hotel-like with kitchenettes, balconies and nice views, but the building is older/dated (small showers, limited amenities, occasional elevator issues) and renovations are ongoing. Overall I highly recommend Hillcrest for compassionate, high-quality care and peace of mind, though be aware of cost and limited upfront pricing transparency.

    About Hillcrest Royale Retirement

Hillcrest Royale Retirement is a family-run assisted living and retirement community that sits in a three-story building and has been operated for over thirty years by a mother and her two daughters, with staff who've worked there for decades and really know their residents. The community provides independent living and assisted living, with care designed for seniors who need some help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or taking medicine, but who don't need full-time nursing care, so you'll find nurses on staff, as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapy right there if needed, plus a doctor and dentist on call and podiatrists and therapists who visit regularly. Folks who live here can choose from furnished or unfurnished rooms, with studios and suites available, and there are both large living spaces and common areas throughout the building, inside and out, where residents and their guests can relax, watch movies in the on-site theater, or join social gatherings; there's also a dedicated dining room where three full meals are served daily, restaurant-style, with a variety of choices and a snack bar open twenty-four hours a day, and vegetarian meals for those who want them. The staff keeps things running smoothly with daily fresh bath linens, weekly housekeeping, and maintenance-free homes, and they're awake and available for emergencies all day and night. Hillcrest Royale offers supportive features like supervision of medication, help transferring from chair to wheelchair, help for diabetics including insulin therapy, standby help for folks who aren't ambulatory, and nurses to visit, though they do ask that residents needing incontinence care are able to manage by themselves. The community allows pets, and has beauty and barber services on site, plus indoor and outdoor spaces for gardening and relaxation, and the minimum age to move in is sixty. Activities are organized throughout the month and cover things like drama classes, music, gardening, group exercise, news forums, outings to museums, concerts, and restaurants, with a big sixteen-seat bus for trips; there are nightly Netflix showings and music therapy, too, and the leadership tries to keep the days varied to avoid boredom. People can smoke outside but not inside the building and there's a real focus on "aging in place," so when care needs increase, folks can stay where they are if possible. The community also offers hospice and respite services, devotional programs on-site, homecare, parking for residents, and complimentary or paid transportation, all in a location near bus lines. Hillcrest Royale prefers to admit people needing light or medium care-most residents fit this range-and the environment is homey, with each person's needs met as individually as possible in a safe and friendly setting, with an activity studio and a monthly newsletter to keep everyone in the loop about what's coming up.
