    Excellent care, poor administrative communication

I have mixed feelings about Oak View. The nursing, therapists and caregivers were exceptional-clean facility, beautiful patios, delicious food and engaging activities made my parent comfortable and supported. However administration and communication were opaque: we went a month with no contact, director callbacks never came, and admissions/contract issues felt rigid and stressful, which caused real family distress. I'm grateful for the clinical care and compassionate staff but would advise verifying communication and contract details before committing.

    About OakView Health Center

OakView Health Center sits in Thousand Oaks, right next to the University Village campus and surrounded by hills, and you'll notice it's a single-story building with private and semi-private rooms, so you won't have to deal with stairs or elevators, and each room has its own touches for comfort. The place offers 24-hour skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services, assisted living, and a secured memory care wing, so whether you need short-term rehab after a hospital stay or long-term care, there's a spot for you here, with 48 Medicare certified skilled nursing beds and 49 assisted living apartments, including a memory support wing. There's a fully equipped rehabilitation center for physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus a therapy and exercise room, so residents can keep as active as possible and work toward recovery or wellness at their own pace. OakView's staff stays on-site around the clock, always ready to help with daily living and healthcare needs, and the community puts a big focus on safety-there's a secured memory unit, 24/7 monitored security system, and locked outdoor courtyards with raised planters for fresh air.

Residents get three healthy, well-balanced meals every day in a restaurant-style dining room that encourages people to sit together, plus snacks available all day, and the kitchen staff do their best to match everyone's food preferences or dietary needs. There's a full-service beauty and barbershop on-site, as well as housekeeping and personal laundry services, so residents can feel clean and cared for, and you'll see that common areas like lounges, libraries, and courtyards make it easy to relax or chat with friends and family. OakView organizes a busy calendar of activities-music appreciation, movie showings, group walks, exercise classes, and off-site outings to keep people entertained and connected to the larger community, so there's always something going on, whether you like quiet events or more active ones. The community strives to provide comfort, safety, and support every day, with staff who treat residents like family, aiming for the highest level of independence possible for each person. OakView has earned a five-star rating from the Center for Medicare Services and has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Nursing Homes, reflecting a commitment to good service, teamwork, and integrity, yet what's most noticeable day-to-day is the straightforward care and the steady, gentle way they go about meeting each resident's needs, whether it's skilled nursing, memory support, life enrichment programs, or just making sure there's a place to sit and relax in the sun.
