    Bright resort-style community with amenities

I'm extremely pleased - this bright, hotel-like community feels new, vibrant and resort-style with immaculate grounds, large windows and lovely interiors. The staff are warm, attentive and professional (Rick and Lisa stood out), residents seem happy, and there's 24-hour support plus on-site rehab/assisted living. Amenities are excellent: restaurant-style dining (all-day menu), busy activities, salon, gyms, theater, library and varied apartment sizes (including 2-BRs with W/D). Main caveats: it's expensive/cash-pay only, no advanced skilled nursing/memory care on site, and some units are small - worth touring if the cost and level of care match your needs.

    About Fairwinds - West Hills

Fairwinds - West Hills sits in a quiet spot on the edge of the San Fernando Valley and offers a wide range of living options, so folks who live there can have independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or even home care if they need it as they age, and the staff sticks around all day and night, so there's always help close by and every apartment has an emergency call system just in case. The community has studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, many with two bathrooms, and the place feels pretty cheerful and cozy with living rooms by the fireplace and courtyards with tiered fountains and raised garden beds that are easy to reach. Residents spend time in the activity and game rooms or visit the full-service salon, wellness center, and PrimeFit gym, which has weights and aerobic steps for folks who like to stay active, and there's a business center with computers, a television room, two libraries with comfortable chairs, and a Nintendo Wii for games.

The community promotes a hospitality-based living style with a focus on personalized care, offering all kinds of support, like home health visits, memory care for folks with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and assistance with daily activities that is tailored to each person's needs, and the options are pretty flexible so people get only the help they want. Socializing happens in many spots, like the coffee bar, lounge, game rooms, or the cafe and bistro area, and there's a grand dining room with chandeliers, set tables, and even a piano, plus a private dining room for family get-togethers, and those who enjoy events can find something to do almost every day with a full calendar of art classes, BrainHQ cognitive games, and even travel plans through the onsite Travel by Leisure Care program and their Twist travel agency.

Residents can bring pets, use complimentary laundry, keep a private mailbox, or relax at the gazebo and landscaped gardens, and off-street parking is available as well as transportation around town in a 14-passenger bus or by private rides. The facility takes pride in providing Five-Star Fun with entertainment and trips, and there's a concierge service, a guest services supervisor, and sales advisors like Rick Waugh and Joe Flores to help answer questions. The property is managed by Leisure Care which has been around for over 30 years, and the team keeps a close eye on each resident's care plan, adjusting as needs change, so there's a sense of stability for people who want to stay put even when their health or situation changes. Fairwinds - West Hills aims to help seniors feel comfortable, active, and cared for, whether folks want a lively community with lots of activities or a peaceful place to enjoy the courtyard with their neighbors.
