    Loving staff, inconsistent meals, pricey

Compared with other places I've seen, I'm impressed by the loving, attentive staff, beautiful clean rooms, well-kept grounds, excellent dementia care and communication with my family - but meals are inconsistent (even with nice dinnerware), call-buttons respond slowly, and I don't feel it's good value for the cost.

    About Evenings Porch Assisted Living

Evenings Porch Assisted Living sits in Bayfield, Colorado, along Highway 160, and operates as a small 16-bed community that tries to feel much more like home than a facility, and you'll find the place built with that in mind-big sunny windows, homegrown organic vegetables in the meals, a community kitchen, and rooms that come in several sizes and styles, including studios, deluxe studios, a two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and private patio, open floor plans, large walk-in closets, and private bathrooms in many units. The owner, Lee McCutchen, opened Evenings Porch after a very personal journey-surviving a major car accident and going through assisted living himself-which led to a place that's more about warmth and caring than anything fancy, with caregivers who stay longer because they receive a living wage and ongoing training, and with staff who treat people with respect and kindness and don't rush through their work. Residents get three healthy, home-cooked meals a day, snacks any time, and special attention to meals for allergies or diabetes. All-day dining is available in a bright dining room; meals might use vegetables grown right there, or other local food. You'll see regular group activities-both at home and out in the community on a 14-passenger bus-like walks through the gardens, yoga, massage therapy, music, or devotional gatherings, all aimed to boost social and emotional wellbeing. The place has a Quality of Health Enhancement program that lets residents choose what keeps them most comfortable, whether that's organic food, a variety of activities, or care options. Weekly exercise classes happen at Evenings Porch itself and at the Bayfield Senior Center, while scheduled outings to local attractions or events provide change of scenery. Every resident gets a Life Alert pendant, and the building stays safe with wheelchair access, emergency alert systems, and 24-hour supervision. The staff helps with all sorts of care-like bathing, dressing, bathroom needs, medication management, and transfers into chairs or beds-with care plans shaped to each person's routine. There's also extra help for those with complex needs, like diabetes care or incontinence care, and a partner program that brings in home health, palliative, or hospice services if needed. Residents can get on-site laser therapy for pain or memory, as well as scheduled massage appointments thanks to in-house therapists and a massage therapy room. Other amenities include Wifi, TV, a spa tub, walking paths, gardens, a community kitchen, a beauty salon and barber shop, and on-site laundry and dry cleaning, plus daily housekeeping and weekly laundry. The place allows for both private and shared rooms, each with furniture as needed, individual heating and cooling, and a private phone line. Evenings Porch keeps its resident numbers low to keep care personal, with staff available all day and night to listen and respond or help with whatever's needed. Residents can take part in as many or as few activities as they like, from gardening to movies to visiting performances, always with an eye on independence and staying active rather than feeling closed-in or left out. The community environment stays peaceful and homelike, and every detail-from therapy to food to rooms to staff consistency-tries to create a place where seniors feel known, respected, and looked after by people who really mean it.
