    Affordable homey but safety concerns

I toured this small, homey 25-resident place and liked the affordable all-inclusive price, large rooms, shady yard, home-cooked meals and responsive administration - staff and the knowledgeable director were friendly and professional, and my mom settled in well at first. The community felt clean, well-kept, and welcoming, but it's far from my home and activities were limited. My biggest concern: I observed shabby furnishings at times and, most alarmingly, an abusive aide who injured a resident without family notification and an owner who was defensive - that safety issue is why I moved my relative elsewhere. Overall: nice, affordable, and personable, but weigh distance and safety history carefully.

    About Azalea House

Azalea House is a smaller care community with room for up to six residents and is located in a quiet suburban area close to medical offices, grocery stores, coffee shops, pharmacies, and restaurants, so people have everything they need close by and there's a nice bit of convenience if someone ever needs to run errands or get to a doctor visit quickly. The home offers assisted living, memory care, respite care, hospice care, independent living options, adult day center programs, and home care, and families can ask about different floor plans, with choices for private or shared rooms and fully furnished suites that have private bathrooms, kitchenettes, and individual thermostat controls, so people can be as comfortable and independent as they're able, and folks can even decorate their rooms to give them a homier feel if they're interested. The building itself has strong safety and security systems, with secured areas for memory care, and wheelchairs can get into the showers easily, which is good for people who need extra help, because the staff handles non-ambulatory care with up to two-person transfers, offers incontinence care, assists with daily activities like bathing, dressing, grooming, and helps out with insulin injections and blood sugar checks. There's always at least one staff person awake, including a registered nurse available around the clock, so there's always someone to help with medications or emergencies, and the same goes for housekeeping, laundry, and meals, which are all taken care of by staff so seniors don't have to worry about those chores anymore.

People living at Azalea House eat three home-cooked meals daily in comfortable, elegant dining rooms, and diets can be adjusted for diabetes or low sodium needs. The place makes things feel social and lively with things like a Culinary Club that hosts cooking classes where residents can get involved, weekly trips out to the farmers' market, movie nights, trivia games, and other activities like group exercises tailored to what the residents enjoy, plus they bring in things like music therapy, pet visits, and provide outdoor seating areas so people can relax under the trees or have quiet visits with family in the sunroom or living room. Folks can get their hair done right at the on-site beauty shop or have a barber come in, and transportation is available for doctor appointments, errands, and even faith-based activities, so people pretty much have a helping hand no matter where they need to go. People looking for budget-friendly assisted living options find this place a good choice, as the community aims to keep things affordable while providing a peaceful, clean, and landscaped place to live. Personalized care plans are the norm here, and staff focus on treating residents with dignity and respect while helping everyone keep as much independence as possible for as long as possible. The community supports aging in place, so as people's care needs change, they can stay without switching to a new location.
