    Attractive facility but unreliable care

I liked the bright, clean facility, friendly caregivers, good dining and activities, and the warm welcome on tour. But frequent turnover, chronic understaffing and inconsistent management produced medication, housekeeping and onboarding problems, so I felt I had to constantly advocate. It's well-kept and high-end, but expensive and not the fit unless you can tolerate pushing for reliable care.

    About Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills

Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills stands as a three-story community offering several types of senior care and living, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home care, continuing care retirement community options, short-term respite stays, and hospice care, so you've got a place to stay if you're just needing help now and then or if you need more support each day, and you'll find they let you keep your pet here if you have one, which seems to matter a lot to some folks. You'll see choices in apartments like studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts, and if you're touring the place you can check out the model room to get a sense of things, plus there's a bistro where you can eat and maybe listen to the classic jukebox, which takes people back, and there are common rooms and rec rooms for relaxing and joining group activities, with both indoor and outdoor spaces including a gazebo, wraparound porches, and garden areas where people sometimes gather on nice days.

For meals, there's restaurant-style dining run by a chef, a private dining room, and meal plans suited for special diets like low salt and low sugar, and the full-service beauty salon along with onsite beauticians help people stay looking their best, and there's both devotional services on the grounds and trips out for religious activities. The Reminiscence Neighborhood keeps residents with advanced memory loss safe and cared for, using bracelets with alarms and secure doors, and the Terrace Club is set up for those with mild to moderate memory trouble, so that you'll see people living as independently as they can with programs that keep them active, social, and engaged, and extra security for anyone who might wander.

Staff are on campus 24 hours a day-including nurses and on-call doctors-and the caregivers have been there a long time, which seems to bring some peace of mind since they know the residents well, help with things like bathing or getting dressed, offer reminders for grooming and daily activities, and can use mechanical aids or even two-person or stand-by transfers for folks who need more help moving. The community provides full support for people with dementia, behavioral issues, or a risk of wandering; general counseling is available, and staff use a computerized alert system to respond quickly if someone tries to leave a safe area.

Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills has a long history-more than 35 years-using research in aging to shape its care, focused on individual wellness and well-being, helping people age in place so they don't have to leave if their needs change, and they've got an Assisted Living Medication Management program, CALD credentials, and other professional certifications you may want to know about if you'll be looking for high standards in an HFA or AFC setting. Residents often spend time in planned activities-art classes, educational lectures, pet programs, devotional gatherings, trips to local sites-and have an activity director who puts together a full calendar to encourage people to stay connected.

Amenities include indoor sitting and social spaces, wheelchair accessible showers, transportation, homecare onsite, dental and podiatry visits, and resident parking, so if you or your family need extra services or therapy like physical or speech support, they'll likely have you covered, and they make sure anyone needing hospice or respite care can find a place here for short or longer-term stays. The focus remains on resident safety, dignity, and the ability to adjust as needs change, with recognition from awards like Best of Senior Living, while pets, outdoor spaces, and social programs help provide a sense of home for those who live there.
