    Compassionate, clean, intimate dementia care

I am so grateful we found this small, family-owned board-and-care - the owners are on-site and the staff is compassionate, experienced, and attentive. My loved one gets individualized, dementia-capable care in a gorgeous, immaculately clean, home-like house with private rooms, a sunroom, home-cooked meals, and prompt medical services (weekly doctor/nurse, PT/OT, VNA); communication is open and I have real peace of mind. It's intimate, social, and worth the higher cost, though openings are limited - I highly recommend it.

    About Greencastle Family Care

Greencastle Family Care sits in a quiet subdivision of Farmington Hills, Michigan, near big roads and close to restaurants, parks, and places for entertainment, and you can really tell they put a lot of thought into making things easy for people who live there, like having business hours from 8 in the morning until 9 at night on weekdays and 8 to 5:30 on weekends, which gives a lot of time for families to visit or call in with questions. They've got all kinds of care there-residential care homes, assisted living, memory care in a special building, senior apartments, even in-home care if someone's more comfortable in their own place, and they also handle nursing home and independent living for folks who don't need a lot of help yet but want some support now and then, and this means people can stay in the same community even if they start needing more care as years pass.

There are only six beds, so it's pretty small and homey, and they'd let people bring their own furniture and decorations to help make the space feel familiar, and every private room has its own bathroom, which matters to folks who want privacy or need things to be wheelchair accessible, as they've got roll-in showers and tubs that make things easier. All meals are home-cooked daily, laundry and linens get cleaned for residents, and people can watch cable TV or use Wi-Fi anywhere in the building. Outdoor and indoor common spaces give a place for everyone to sit, talk, or enjoy the weather, and staff organize daily activities meant to keep people busy, entertained, and social, since they believe in giving people lots to do together so they don't just sit alone all day, and they'll help residents get to appointments or places with transport services, too.

People who need help with medication, bathing, or grooming will find staff around day and night with training in all sorts of care, from light help with daily activities to more complex medical needs, and they've got a visiting doctor plus other health folks like nurses, therapists, and even podiatrists who check in, so if someone has diabetes, memory problems, or a chronic illness like Alzheimer's or needs hospice care, they'll find a staff who knows what they're doing. The memory care unit is a separate, locked building with bracelets on residents in case someone tries to leave or gets mixed up, which is important for keeping people safe, especially if they wander or get confused, and they've planned for folks needing stand-by help or lifts to move from bed to chair or chair to bath, and they even take people with major behavior challenges and provide care for elopement risks, which isn't something every place is set up for.

Their pricing is all published, and families can see average room costs, with a one-bedroom memory care unit running around $6,000 a month, and the way they do fees is that the community only pays if a family chooses to move in, and they help families by giving free advice with local advisors who help people figure out the right fit, answer questions, get pricing or availability, and walk through the steps, plus their website has information and resources in both English and Bahasa Indonesia for those who need it.

Greencastle Family Care has a peaceful, clean atmosphere where staff are friendly, chosen for being patient and kind, and they've got awards and top ratings from families and residents, with a perfect 5.0 rating from 19 reviews, which speaks to people feeling safe, cared for, and part of a small, close community, and even though it's modest in size with only 6 beds, it's got everything laid out so seniors can age in place without having to move again if their needs change, and families seem to really value that.
