    Caring, clean, family-like Christian home

I toured this family-run, Christian senior home and was very impressed - multi-generational, consistent staff who are kind, proficient, and quick to respond provide 24-hour attentive care, daily bathing/dressing, monitored hydration, and engaging activities. Meals are home-cooked, delicious and healthy, the place is clean and welcoming, and it truly feels like family. They answered all my questions with compassion, but in the end it wasn't the best fit for my loved one.

    About A Touch of Home

A Touch of Home in Fenton, MI, is a small, family-owned adult foster care home with space for up to twelve residents, but usually three licensed beds in a home-like setting, and it has a warm, familiar feel that many people appreciate because the caregivers there have experience and really do care, and three generations of the family help out which leads to steady support for everyone who lives there. Residents get their own private suites or shared rooms, all air-conditioned, fully furnished, with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, cable TV, internet, and phone service too, so everyone is comfortable and can stay connected, and nobody needs to worry about housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, or cooking because the staff handle those jobs, and meals come prepared fresh with healthy ingredients and the residents' preferences in mind, including for special diets like allergies or diabetes.

There's 24-hour supervision with standby help close by, and caregivers help with everything from getting dressed to bathing, moving around, medication management and administration, and even therapy visits if needed like physical, occupational, or speech therapy, hospice, and emergency care because the home sits close to hospitals, doctor's offices, and fire and police services, and those who need extra memory care for dementia have a special neighborhood just for them, staffed by workers with extra training. Residents get to enjoy community activities, movie nights, walking paths, a garden, a front patio for sitting together, and nearby parks and lakes for anyone who wants to go outside, and the communal dining room lets people eat meals together on a schedule or anytime during the day.

Staff members organize group activities, on-site services, devotional gatherings, and trips out, and try hard to match the activities to what people like to do, and the environment overall stays welcoming, nurturing, and calm, which can be good for seniors who need a quiet routine and close attention, and there's an emergency alert system in place. The home supports both men and women, doesn't allow smoking inside, and doesn't accept Medicare unless certified by government guidelines, though it is licensed by the State of Michigan as an adult foster care home, so families can feel secure knowing the care provided follows the rules set by the state. The community's main focus is on compassionate daily support, good food, personal help, and a safe, comfortable home for older adults who'd rather not live in big facilities.
