    Beautiful facility but understaffed care

My mom lived here and I'm torn: it's a beautiful, brand-new, apartment-style facility-clean, safe, with delicious meals (the chef is outstanding), friendly staff who know residents by name, lots of activities, and a warm, home-like memory-care feel. Staff are caring and professional overall, but chronic understaffing shows (slow call responses, occasional unattended or soiled residents, some aides overwhelmed and uneven training, and spotty management follow-through). I'm generally pleased and would recommend it for the environment and care, but be aware of higher cost and staffing/response limitations.

    About Hampton Manor of Bedford

Hampton Manor of Bedford sits in Bedford as a one-story senior living community that's got independent living, assisted living, nursing home care, and memory care services all under one licensed roof, with the license number AH580402179 from the state of Michigan, so you know they're meeting the state's rules for Homes for the Aged, and they say they've got room for up to 114 residents at a time with no current waitlist. The place itself is pet-friendly for animals under 25 pounds if you pay a one-time charge of $1000, and features private studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and special memory care suites, with sizes that run between 306 and 731 square feet. The monthly rate starts at $3740, and extra costs can come in if someone needs more care. There's three dining rooms for meals, choices for in-room dining, and folks can expect breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks at set times each day, though they get flexibility to eat when it suits them and don't always have to come to the dining rooms. Meals come from chefs and meal planners who focus on nutrition and taste, and there's a mailbox outside the director's office if anyone wants to raise a concern, plus residents can always talk straight to the executive director or the department head if something needs fixing, and families get a call from a supervisor or department director if there's an issue. The building is easy to get around, designed for people who might use walkers or wheelchairs, and every suite or apartment has handy features for anyone needing a bit more support moving about. Amenities include Wi-Fi, a gaming and pool room, movie theatre, spa, rock fountain garden, hair and nail salon, casual café, secure entrance, sunroom, patios, library, and religious services too, plus wearable emergency pendants, and security cameras outside, so people feel safe. Transition support is there, so new folks will meet staff and residents who'll walk them through meals, activities, and how laundry gets done. Staff at Hampton Manor of Bedford are all licensed, from department directors to resident aides, certified nursing assistants, and medication techs, and they're around 24 hours a day. The community brings in visiting nurse practitioners and a podiatrist, and helps residents keep their personal doctors if that's wanted. They offer non-ambulatory care, high acuity care, incontinence support, medication help, and diabetic care, with extra attention for those with Alzheimer's or other dementia, and in memory care those people live in suites set up to keep things simple and secure, so they don't wander. Families looking for help with end-of-life care can talk about hospice, and Hampton Manor supports aging in place, so once someone moves in, they can stay as their needs change. Respite stays are welcome as long as there's a 30-day move-out notice. They don't run their own medical transport, but they show families where to get rides with the Bedford Health Van for a fee. New residents get checked out by staff to decide what daily help is needed before moving in. Flu shots are mostly available on-site in the fall, but Covid shots have to be arranged somewhere else. They welcome people 55 and up, and aim to create a warm, home-like place where people help each other, stay social, and get support without losing independence. They've picked up a few awards like Best of Senior Living, Best Activities, and Most Friendly community for the ways they keep people engaged, active, and supported, but the main thing you'll notice is that folks can tour the place, see the rooms, meet the staff, and think about whether all the schedules, activities, amenities, and care choices fit what they're looking for in a senior living home.
