    Caring staff but safety concerns

I appreciated the staff and therapy - kind, professional, and often going above and beyond (Madonna, Val, Jay, Roman, Tracey stood out). Nursing and COVID protocols felt strong - no reported cases and good protective measures. That said, I noticed troubling lapses: poor communication, inconsistent doctor/rehab follow-up, spotty cleanliness (shower/peeling wallpaper), and concerning reports of neglect/abuse that shouldn't be ignored. Meals were hit-or-miss and I'd prefer on-site cooking; the hospital-adjacent location is convenient. Overall I'd recommend cautiously - excellent, caring staff, but verify safety, cleanliness, and communication first.

    About Oakland Manor

Oakland Manor sits on the first floor of the East Tower at 50 North Perry Street in Pontiac, offering a wide range of support for older adults and those needing medical care, and they've been doing this since 2014, so they've had some time to settle into their routines, and what folks will find here is a combination of skilled nursing, rehabilitation, memory care, and assisted living all under one roof, making it easier for people to get the help they need without moving around too much. The community has a 16-bed inpatient rehab unit right in McLaren Oakland Hospital, where an experienced team, including Dr. Melissa Andric who specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, helps people recover from things like strokes, head injuries, back and neck problems, amputations, and other serious issues, so if someone has a tough rehab process ahead, they're in good hands with plenty of professional support and an interdisciplinary team focused on helping people regain their independence and daily function. There's 24-hour medical care and support from skilled staff, and for those who need a shorter stay, maybe after surgery or an illness, there's short-term and sub-acute rehab as well as recovery services. Residents who want to live more independently can do so with optional support, and those in memory care get a secure area with programs designed to help people living with Alzheimer's or dementia keep their dignity and stay safe, with round-the-clock supervision. Seniors who want to stay in one place as their needs change can look at Oakland Manor's offerings for continuing care retirement communities, moving from independent to more involved care when they need it, or even into board and care homes for a smaller, home-like setting with daily help. People here get help with daily tasks like meals, medication, personal care, and managing everyday activities, so living here can take the pressure off families. Residents also have wellness programs, coaching, and activities to keep them socially engaged, and those who enjoy a little freedom will find a more maintenance-free lifestyle, which sometimes includes amenities and social events, and there are both acute and long-term hospital services available right on the same practice campus because they're part of Pioneer Specialty Hospital. The facility also offers wound care, comprehensive nursing, emergency and trauma care at a Level II Trauma Center, and many other doctor services like cardiology, neuroscience, cancer treatment, and orthopedic care, often with specialists on hand and some advanced procedures like minimally invasive robotic surgery. For those who can't easily visit in person, Oakland Manor also provides virtual care and online doctor appointments, and everyone gets access to a patient portal for medical records, which helps keep things organized. Overall, Oakland Manor covers a lot of ground, from outpatient and inpatient care to memory support and general wellness, led by qualified staff who aim to balance medical needs with the comfort and dignity of their residents.
