The Village Of Oakland Woods sits on an 80-acre scenic campus right in the center of Pontiac, and you'll see the natural surroundings with landscaped paths and green space, giving people a bit of peace and quiet for their retirement years, and the cottages and garden-style apartments come in sizes from 486 to 1,053 square feet, with one-bedroom or two-bedroom options, so there's enough space for what most folks need and it's good for folks who want less hassle since the community takes care of maintenance. This place gives seniors choices between independent living, assisted living, nursing care, and memory care, so people with different needs can get help, and those with dementia or Alzheimer's have individualized care plans and a safe, secure environment, with staff offering structured activities just for memory support, and you always see staff trained in handling these situations. There are nurses, personal care assistants, and medical help like podiatry, wound care, occupational therapy, and bathing or medication support, and you get services like transportation, walking or wheelchair help, laundry, housekeeping, and safety features like handrails and sprinklers that make daily life a little easier and safer. Folks looking for company have a game room, crafts, regular social activities, classes, and health and wellness programs, and there's a fitness center, salon, internet, cable TV, kitchens or kitchenettes, and guest parking, so those practical comforts are all in place. People moving in get an initial consultation, an assessment, and detailed care plans, with privacy respected the whole way, while info about move-in steps, waiting lists, and tours-both in-person and virtual-are available, so there's not much guessing about what to expect. The Village operates with support from the Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, and covers a lot-everything from personalized memory care to skilled nursing and rehabilitation, to caregiver tips, and a care platform for information, which is handy for families. They even help with long-term care insurance, affordable housing tools, and run things like the Fundraiser's Forum, Group Purchasing Program, and an Ecumenical Conference, plus there are member benefits and a member directory for folks staying involved. The community stays active with disaster recovery resources and ties to groups like the POAMN Older Adult Ministry Guide, and there's always some event, program, or resource going on, so people can keep busy and learn. There's an emphasis on helping people understand the differences between types of care-assisted living, independent, nursing home, and memory care-and choosing what fits their health and lifestyle needs best. The Village tries to keep things comfortable, supportive, and affordable, focusing on making sure elders have the help they need without making it confusing or overwhelming, and right now they have some units available for people interested in moving, so there's a chance for new residents to join the community and enjoy the amenities, privacy, and respect that come with it.

Quiet safe 55+ community recommended
I've lived here over 10 years and it's a beautiful, quiet, safe 55+ community that I highly recommend. The single-level, walk-in apartments (no stairs), 24/7 security, nearby stores, many activities, library/gym/internet and resident laundry make daily life easy and social. Staff are mostly caring, accommodating and maintenance is usually punctual, and the grounds are generally immaculate. My concerns: maintenance has been neglected at times-grass was dead all summer and trees need trimming (sprinklers would help)-and the community center has limited hours/closed weekends. There's also been at least one difficult staff member and some reports of race-based exclusion, which should be addressed. Overall I'm very happy and consider this my forever home.
