    Friendly staff, affordable but dated

I live here and overall I'm pleased: staff are friendly, caring, and very helpful, activities are frequent and engaging (though often spread across buildings), and the apartments are roomy and good value. The community is clean and well run with a strong life-enrichment team, but the building and curb appeal feel dated. Dining is the weakest link - meals are hit-or-miss, sometimes require ordering ahead, and aren't restaurant quality. Maintenance usually responds quickly but some issues went unresolved, and management communication can be spotty, especially around medical/dementia requests. Despite those flaws, it's affordable, welcoming, and I would recommend it.

About American House Village of Rochester

American House Village of Rochester sits over in Rochester Hills, MI, not far from hospitals like St. Joseph's Pontiac, Troy Beaumont, and Royal Oak Beaumont, and it offers a range of choices for older adults, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, short-stay respite care, and nursing and rehab, with some adults coming for home health or adult day care too, and all those services come under one roof as part of what's called a Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC, so people can change their type of care if their needs change, and you find both villa and apartment options, with places that have one, two, or three bedrooms, sometimes a den, private bathrooms, in-unit laundry, kitchenettes or full kitchens, cable and internet wiring, and temperature control. The property is one-story and ranch-style, built in 1990, with condominium-type units featuring about 640 square feet in some cases, and residents who drive have access to garage spots, carports, assigned spaces, and covered parking, while guests also get parking too, and there's an overnight guest room for visiting family or friends, so folks can come and stay a spell if they want. Residents get to have small pets if they pay a one-time fee, and the community leans toward being pet friendly, so long as the pets stay manageable. There are gardens, walking paths, patios for sitting outside, along with a lush campus setting, plenty of outdoor spots to enjoy some fresh air, and folks seem to keep the place clean and decorated nicely, with a friendly crowd and helpful staff who are around all hours, including a business office manager, an executive director, and a social director who puts together a busy calendar of cultural, social, and recreational events like music, game nights, offsite trips, arts and crafts, cooking clubs, and exercise. There's a fitness center with treadmills and bikes, wellness programs meant for older bodies, and a barber and beauty shop, along with a library, chapel, activities room, billiards room, ice cream parlor, computer room, and even an indoor postal station. Residents can use private laundry or pay a bit extra for laundry service. Housekeeping and maintenance keep things comfortable, and the facility runs on a month-to-month lease system, so folks don't have to make a big long-term commitment. Dining's a big plus, with daily continental breakfast that always has at least one hot item, and then restaurant-style meals for lunch and supper, plus there's a dining room for sitting with neighbors, and a coffee and beverage station for anytime refreshments. Meals are made with quality ingredients and focus on nutrition, and guests can join residents for meals too. Community amenities include a gym, library, convenience store, and even chapel services, and physical therapist and occupational therapist visits get scheduled for those who need them, along with 24-hour personal care services, medicine help, and support for folks with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia. People can use personal and scheduled transportation, or paid rides, if they need to shop or go to appointments. Apartments and condos have emergency call systems for safety, and staff are known to be joyful, kind, and quick to help. Activities aim to help folks stay engaged, healthy, and happy. The community only accepts adults age 55 and over, and private pay is how most folks cover their costs here, though they'll also try to help with VA benefits if that's needed. Overall, American House Village of Rochester tries to provide supportive senior housing in a lively, well-kept spot, with straightforward services for older adults.
