    Outstanding staff, good care; pricey

I placed my mother here and overall I'm very glad. The staff are outstanding-attentive, caring, proactive-and she gets above-and-beyond care, helpful rehab, and three tasty meals a day (she especially likes the BBQ). The place is generally very clean with good activities that have improved her mood and strength. Downsides: rooms are small, the building feels dark/not scooter-friendly, and costs can be high with extra à-la-carte charges. I'd recommend it for the care and staff, though the atmosphere and price may not suit everyone.

About Royal Oak House Assisted Living and Memory Care

Royal Oak House Assisted Living and Memory Care sits in a quiet neighborhood near Royal Oak Beaumont, St. John Oakland, and Botsford Hospital, with easy freeway access and shopping close by, so family and doctors aren't far. The community offers both assisted living services and memory care, which helps seniors who need daily support or have memory impairments like Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia. Staff stay on-site 24 hours a day and provide care with kindness, handling things like bathing, dressing, medication, and helping people with transitioning from home, hospital, or another facility.

Residents live in private, maintenance-free studio apartments with their own private baths, which offer privacy and comfort, and these rooms sit on the ground floor, so they're easy to reach and wheelchair accessible. Meals come three times a day in a restaurant-style dining room, and snacks are available, too. There's regular housekeeping and laundry services, so residents don't have to worry about chores. Safety features include emergency response systems and regular programs for fall prevention and strength training, and the entire building's designed to reduce confusion and prevent wandering for those with memory care needs.

The grounds have landscaped areas and indoor and outdoor spaces to gather, like a library, lounges, common dining areas, and several activity rooms, so there's always a spot for a card game, quiet reading, or conversation. The community plans activities and trips, both onsite and offsite, which range from exercises and cultural outings to devotional services and therapy, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Wi-Fi's available for residents who want it, and the building follows a no-smoking policy indoors. Pet-friendly rooms are available, and resident parking comes with the facility.

Royal Oak House runs as a continuing care retirement community, meaning aging in place is possible, and the staff can provide more help as residents' needs grow, from respite care to hospice. There are nurses on staff, doctors and nurses on call, and extra services like homecare, podiatry, and even a beauty and barber salon on site. Residents can take scheduled transportation for appointments or errands, and the team can even help coordinate moving in and settling, with a move-in packet meant to make the transition smoother. The building's fully licensed, and people have given the place a 7.8 review score and several awards, including Best of Senior Living and All Star awards.

Staff at Royal Oak House focus on both comfort and safety, trying to create a warm, family-like feeling, and the layout and programs work to promote independence while offering help when it's needed. Memory care has a separate, dedicated area with special features for those with memory impairments, and there's on-site nursing supervision around the clock. The community sees to details like strength training, fall prevention, nutritious meals planned by chefs, and relaxing common spaces. Families and residents seem happy with the staff's helpfulness and the home-like environment. Anyone interested can take a tour during the day or after-hours by appointment and see how things run, and there are floorplans to fit different needs. Royal Oak House aims to support seniors' well-being, dignity, and daily comfort, whether someone needs a little help or more specialized memory care.
