    Caring staff, affordable, needs updates

I'm very happy we chose Lakeside Manor - the staff are kind, professional and go out of their way, the place feels safe (strong COVID protocols), meals and activities keep my loved one engaged, and it's excellent value and convenient by the lake. The community is clean and caring with stable long-tenured staff who know residents by name. It is an older, run-down building with small, sometimes dark rooms and needs updating, and a few people mentioned occasional food/portion or communication issues. Overall I would recommend it for someone wanting affordable, attentive care and a homey, active atmosphere rather than a luxury facility.

    About Lakeside Manor Retirement

Lakeside Manor Retirement sits near Virginia Lake in southwest Reno, and the building's three stories hold studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, all with easy layouts, wall-to-wall carpet, custom blinds, kitchenettes with microwaves, private baths, big closets, and climate controls, and some even have screened-in balconies or open patios that look out over the city or the lake; residents have access to a secure, gated area, a peaceful courtyard, and lots of outdoor space with landscaping and shaded spots for relaxing. The community welcomes people aged 55 and up who want to stay active and independent, but also offers assisted living, memory care, nursing, and even in-home care choices, so if you need extra help like dressing or medication management, you can get that without moving away, and there's hospice for those who need it, too. Pets can live here with their owners, and smoking isn't allowed anywhere inside-private or public spaces-so the air's always clean.

There's a full schedule of daily activities every week, plus a spacious retro-style activity room for games, crafts, music, and even a jukebox, and they do things like bingo, movies, discussion groups, baking, arts, massage, and even sign language classes; if you want to visit with family, there are common lounges with big TVs, a piano for anyone who plays, computers, and quiet places to read or chat, and folks often gather for monthly birthday parties with cake, gifts, and live music. The beautiful dining room has chandeliers and set tables where residents eat three home-cooked meals each day, with professional staff in the kitchen making sure they're nutritious and tasty, and if you're thinking about moving in, you're welcome to join a lunch or dinner tour.

Lakeside Manor provides transportation to doctor's appointments, stores, and shopping centers in the Reno-Sparks area, and there's parking for both residents and their visitors, while almost all utilities are included, like heat and Wi-Fi-just not phone or cable. Staff are always around to help, and they're trained to be kind and helpful, with 24-hour emergency alarms, smoke detectors, and sprinkler systems for safety; weekly housekeeping, laundry, and even a full-service beauty salon and barber shop are right on site for residents' convenience. They have guides for healthy living, advice for seniors, and support for veterans' benefits and Medicare questions, so you'll find help with questions, transition needs, or just everyday life.

Residents are close to restaurants, banks, the post office, a golf course, and the Peppermill Hotel Casino, but it's still a quiet and comfortable spot to call home, with lots of social options, a library, and many chances each day to make friends or do things you enjoy. The goal is for everyone to feel safe, comfortable, and at home, with just the right amount of support so you can keep living the way you want as long as possible.
