    Cozy home, good food, understaffed

I found the place clean, cozy and homey - large, nicely furnished private rooms, a bright bistro-style dining area, a lovely sunroom and the chef (Irma) makes excellent, homemade meals. Staff are friendly, personable and helpful, and the small size/low resident count felt intimate. However, chronic understaffing/high turnover (roughly 1 caregiver per 15 residents), minimal security, neglected/inaccessible outdoor spaces and very limited organized activities make it unsuitable for people who need ADL help or close medical oversight. I'd recommend it for independent residents or families on a budget who value a home-like, well-kept facility, but not for higher-care needs.

About The New Beginnings Senior Living

The New Beginnings Senior Living sits up in Albuquerque's northern valley and has a calm, homey setting with a comfortable feel, offering many different types of care all in one place, so you'll find assisted living, independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, and even adult day and home health care, which means most people can get the help they need without moving away from their chosen community once their needs change, and a person can pick from apartments with two bedrooms, shared or private rooms, and every unit's got its own bathroom and things like heated bathroom floors, kitchenettes, air conditioning, cable, and either Wi-Fi or internet access, which makes for a pretty easy place to live. This place runs as a board and care home and has 24-hour staffing, a security system, and an emergency call system, and staff are always on-call for help, even for higher needs like medication management, dressing, meal , incontinence care, high acuity care, and support with daily tasks, while still pushing folks to stay as independent as possible. All meals are provided and someone can ask for special food plans-there's choices like gluten-free, vegetarian, no sodium, kosher, no sugar, organic, and they offer Farm to Table meals, being the first in Albuquerque to do that, so food is fresh and healthy. People living here don't have to worry about chores, cooking, or cleaning, since maintenance-free living means those jobs are taken care of, which some folks really appreciate as they get older or just want a break.

Daily life isn't boring, since the staff set up activities like yoga, Tai Chi, stretching classes, devotional services, birthday and holiday parties, live music events, BBQs or picnics, plus onsite and offsite trips, so there's usually something happening, and pets like dogs are allowed, which helps people feel at home. There's space to spend time indoors or out, with both private spots and common areas to relax or visit with others, and all rooms aim to balance comfort with safety, having bath tubs or wheelchair-accessible showers, oversized entries, and private bathrooms. The community is gated, so there's some peace of mind, and nursing staff are around full-time alongside free medical transportation, so it's not hard to get care when needed. If someone needs hospice, long-term skilled nursing, or Medicare-certified home health care, those can all happen here, meaning family can find a range of options that cover changing needs. The director and staff try to give everyone in the place personalized attention and work closely with both residents and their families to make care plans that fit the physical, mental, and emotional needs of each person, and counselors and nutritional guidance are available. Folks also get information and resources on long-term care insurance and family caregiving, so there's support with the bigger planning too. The setting feels familiar and genuinely cared for, since friendly staff and a focus on a safe and healthy environment are the priority, with security and supervision at all hours, and that environment gets high ratings from residents and their families. The New Beginnings Senior Living is fully licensed-state license 2T2289-and aims for a simple, dignified, and low-stress life for seniors who want to live with plenty of choices and caring people nearby in Albuquerque.
