Schofield Residence Nursing Facility sits in a quiet, pretty part of Kenmore, NY and cares for up to 120 residents, having spent over 115 years helping people ever since Dr. Jennie Schofield founded the place back in 1910, so they've seen a lot of folks come and go and know how to look after those who need skilled nursing or short-term rehab, whether you've got a chronic illness, need some extra help after a hospital stay, or can't be cared for at home for a while. The facility's known as a Skilled Nursing Facility and provides inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing care around the clock, which means they've got registered nurses, a dedicated director of rehabilitation and home care services, along with therapists for physical and occupational therapy, so folks can stay for short periods or get long-term care, including special services like veterans care, help for traumatic brain injury, hospice, and palliative care. The place isn't handicap accessible, which can be important for some to know, and there aren't any amenities specifically listed, but Schofield Residence has things like activity calendars and meal menus, a virtual tour, and a photo gallery so people can get a look before coming. When someone's ready to come in, families or individuals can call, write, walk in, or come through a referral, though new referrals happen Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4 pm, and while it's open 24/7 for residents, they've put effort into keeping everyone safe, with emergency preparedness plans and trained staff. Since Schofield Care, the group running it, is a not-for-profit organization, the focus stays on care, offering jobs with training and scholarships, and if someone can't live at the facility, Schofield also provides a wide range of home health services, including private duty aides that help with things like bathing, dressing, and meals, plus an adult day health care program for those who only need support during the day. Schofield's always worked to show compassion in dealing with a range of folks who could use a helping hand as they grow older or recover, and while the building itself doesn't claim any extras, it stands out for its long tradition and variety of skilled care and rehab services.

Inconsistent care despite excellent staff
I'm torn. Many aides, therapists and activities staff were wonderful - kind, engaging, and helped with rehab (a few people stood out and my mom did regain mobility after leaving) and the food and campus were often nice. But care was wildly inconsistent: understaffed (especially nights/weekends), slow or no response to call lights, delayed meds, soiled residents, lost/missing equipment and belongings, rehab unreliable, and leadership/complaints were often ignored. I saw neglect and unsafe practices that I can't overlook. Overall I rate it two stars and would not recommend placing a loved one here despite some excellent staff.
