Brickstone by St. John's sits surrounded by 35 acres of wetlands with bike paths and walking trails, so there's a lot of nature all around, and when you live here you can see the seasons change from your window or take a stroll if you're up for it. The community feels a lot like a small town, where people can get to know each other and take part in different clubs like the Brickstone Chorale or the current events group, and they hold activities such as lectures, fitness classes, and even themed dinners or theatre outings, so it's easy to find something to do. Apartments, townhouses, and bungalows come in a variety of floorplans, with some apartments built above and around Brickstone Village Square that have one or two bedrooms, two full baths, private balconies, and one-car indoor garage parking, and all the units have full-size washers and dryers, eat-in kitchens with new appliances and quartz counters, and all the utilities are included with cable TV, plus there's Wi-Fi in the common areas and all the inside and outside maintenance is handled, so people can spend their time how they want instead of worrying about chores. Security staff stay on duty every hour of the day, with concierge help on hand, and there's a Personal Emergency Response System for extra reassurance. Residents have access to scheduled transportation for getting to appointments and for going out, and can also get dinner delivery, catering services if they want to entertain, and housekeeping, plus there's a handyman for special help around the home. People living here use common rooms with Wi-Fi for gatherings, and can even enjoy some amenities at St. John's Meadows and get priority access to St. John's Home if the need ever comes up. The Winter Garden, a central gathering spot, hosts many events like talks on Remarkable Rochesterians or America's Popular Christmas Anthems, and there have been special exhibits there too, such as the Waterfalls and Waterways event about Brighton's watersheds. There are scheduled events like one held on April 14, 2024, others on January 26, 2020, and December 12, 2021, all starting in the afternoon and sometimes going for a couple of hours, and residents can use features to add new events or update details, so the calendar keeps filling up as people stay active. Brickstone works with local colleges and universities, which helps bring in opportunities for continued education, and the LifeBio biography program lets residents share their personal stories if they want, while volunteer programs allow people to give back to the wider St. John's community. The focus stays on a lifestyle that respects everyone, regardless of creed, color, or where they were born, and there's a strong effort to give people a tidy, affordable, and well-maintained place to live, with plenty of choices and support, so they can feel safe, engaged, and at home as part of a friendly community.

Compassionate beautiful active well-run community
I've lived here eight years and love the compassionate, skilled staff who feel like family - they're helpful, prompt, and non-intrusive. The grounds and common spaces are beautiful (sunlit library, winter garden, ponds, trails, patios with fire pits) and apartments are stylish and well-appointed. There are abundant activities, classes, therapy and shuttle services that keep people active and social while preserving independence. It's clean, well-run, and welcoming, though newer units are expensive and some apartments are small; a few residents can be less friendly. Overall I feel valued and would highly recommend it.
