    Feels like home; minor concerns

I live here and genuinely feel at home - the staff are warm and responsive, residents are friendly, and the community feels like family. On-site healthcare and daily clinic nurse visits give me peace of mind, and the facilities are first-class (beautiful apartments, saltwater pool/hot tub, exercise room) with tons of activities, outings, and easy access to restaurants and family. Move-in and transitions were smooth and my loved one is thriving. My only caveats: food service can be slow or lukewarm at times, and I've heard some concerning reports about management, maintenance, and staffing/HR issues that should be addressed. Overall, I'm very pleased and wouldn't consider moving elsewhere.

    About Searstone Retirement Community

Searstone Retirement Community sits at 17001 Searstone Dr. in Cary, North Carolina, and has called Cary home since opening six years ago. The community has a range of care options since it's a Continuing Care Retirement Community, also known as a Life Plan community, and offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, and Memory Support all on one campus. Searstone uses a Type A Contract, often called a Life Care contract, which means residents get a full range of healthcare services as part of their plan, with no additional costs for care as needs change. The Executive Director leads around 51-200 employees, while a Food Services Manager oversees the food department serving meals like grilled salmon in the main dining room and offers other options like no sugar meals, vegetarian, gluten-free, and international cuisine, plus guests can eat at The White Horse Bar & Grille for more social dining and drinks. The community is known for friendly staff and resident-run activities that help everyone get involved. Searstone works to keep residents safe with 24-hour security, a 24-hour call system, supervision, and healthcare coordination that covers medication management, diabetic care, incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, and help with bathing, dressing, and daily needs, as well as having services for dementia and mild cognitive impairment support, including a secured memory care program that takes residents' personal histories and skills into account.

Residents choose from several types of spacious homes-including private homes, lakeview flats, estate homes, apartments, and new homes in The Highview-a four-story building with 152 modern apartments, more dining venues, and a large performing arts center. Some homes include two-car garages, elevators, finished basements, natural gas fireplaces, balconies, and generous storage; all come with features like ground-floor units, wheelchair-accessible showers, full kitchens, air conditioning, and high-speed internet. The community is pet-friendly and walkable, even by golf cart, within neighborhoods such as Woodside Estates, Creekside Estates, Lorraine Plaza, Calais Terrace, and Brittany Place. There's scheduled transportation, covered and uncovered parking, housekeeping, maintenance, and a concierge service to support ease of living. Residents enjoy a 45,000-square-foot Clubhouse with a library, ballroom, casual and formal dining, and spaces for cultural, educational, and spiritual events, plus amenities like a fitness center, indoor pool, spa, salon, massage center, walking paths, gardens, and even a 4.5-acre stocked, walkable lake.

Brittany Place houses Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing, with a focus on dignity and creating individual care plans for each person. Memory Support has safety measures and tries to personalize care to fit residents' backgrounds and abilities. Meals can be served restaurant-style in dining rooms, in residents' apartments, or as guest meals, and residents can order options like room service. Group activities, gatherings in The Grand Ballroom, classes, and outings keep the calendar active while spaces like the private dining room, café, and bar or pub give chances for residents to socialize. Searstone's staff helps with both daily needs and planning for the long term, offering resources for families and help navigating care and costs, including tools like an affordability calculator and a financial FAQ. Spacious open floor plans, cottage gardens, and plenty of natural light make for comfortable living spaces, and there's plenty of storage and easy access around the community for those using wheelchairs or walkers. The facility's reviews often point out quality dining, engaging activities, and an overall friendly atmosphere. Residents can stay connected with the community's own newsroom blog, and there are always photo galleries and updated maps to help people see what's new or learn about the layouts before moving in.
