Preston House sits quietly in a Charlotte, NC neighborhood close to hospitals, shops, parks, and restaurants so folks can reach anything they might need without going far, and it's set up with a focus on comfort, safety, and daily support, with everything centered around making life easier for seniors at different care levels including assisted living, nursing care, memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, and independent living, plus they even offer short stays for respite. Residents can relax knowing rooms have private bathrooms, are fitted with emergency response systems, and are built for wheelchair users and others who need extra help getting around, not to mention there's always staff on duty-day and night-with nurses on site and a doctor available if needed. There's regular check-ins, reminders, and help with things like medication, bathing, dressing, walking, and other personal tasks, and the community supports residents who may wander or need close supervision, using secure doors, special bracelets, and a staff trained for behavioral and cognitive changes that sometimes come with memory loss. The care team, along with podiatrists and therapists, covers diabetes care, wound care, medication monitoring, and more, while occupational therapists and a full social program director keep up a busy calendar with crafts, live music, bingo, outings, and faith services, plus there's always group exercise or card clubs if folks prefer familiar hobbies. Meals come three times daily in the dining room, prepared by dietitians so anyone's special diet isn't a worry, and guests are welcome to join for a meal time to time so family can stay involved. Residents have access to washers, dryers, in-house laundry, weekly housekeeping, and maintenance, with everything-like water, electricity, cable TV, and Wi-Fi-bundled in the price, so there are no surprise charges. There's a beauty salon and the Floyd's barber shop indoors, fitness center, peaceful outdoor paths, and inviting indoor lounges, and for those with memory challenges, there's a special, dedicated building built just for memory care with cozy home-like rooms, purpose-built designs to avoid confusion, and a secure environment to prevent wandering. Transportation to appointments or outings is available, though sometimes there's an added fee for these trips, and the activities team keeps up the social side with daily programs, seasonal celebrations, regular devotionals, and even cognitive exercises tailored to those with dementia, following their Pathways to Discovery program. Residents are welcome whether they need just a little extra support or full nursing care, and insurance such as long-term care policies gets accepted. The overall feeling in Preston House stays friendly and homey, always focused on dignity, safety, and a routine filled with things to do, and the management-with a Director of Community Data-watches over the whole operation to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Compassionate, spotless, secure, home-like care
I placed my loved one here and have been very pleased - the staff are compassionate, attentive and consistent, the facility is spotless, secure and memory-care focused, rooms are private and home-like, and meals/activities are good. A few families mentioned occasional staffing, communication or activity shortfalls, but overall the team went above and beyond and gave us real peace of mind.
