    Warm staff but management concerns

I placed my family member here and the staff were warm, attentive and truly felt like family - very personalized care, long-tenured employees, good social engagement, safe, near home and within our budget. The building isn't fancy (older, lovely grounds) and meals are basic with limited diet options. My concerns: inconsistent cleanliness and management, understaffing, missed baths/neglect at times, poor weekend accessibility, and troubling reports of theft/medication issues. I would recommend only with careful oversight and clear answers from management - it worked well for our sister, but proceed with caution.

    About Heritage Care

Heritage Care in Conover, North Carolina, is a senior living community that offers several types of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, respite care, skilled nursing, and hospice support, and you'll find that the community also has homes in Pembroke and Taylorsville. The facility has a ranch-style layout and is surrounded by mature trees, which helps create a peaceful setting with plenty of greenery and clean air, and it's made to feel homelike and comfortable, so residents really feel like they belong and are known personally, as it's not too large, with room for up to 64 people at a time, and residents must be at least 55 years old. Staff are on-site and awake 24 hours a day, including a nurse, doctor on call, and other caregivers, so help is always available, whether for medication management, support with bathing and dressing, assistance with eating or transfers, two-person transfers for non-ambulatory residents, or reminders for things like toileting and incontinence support, and there's special memory and dementia care, as well as visiting professionals like a podiatrist, dentist, and therapists.

Heritage Care has private apartments, and you can choose from studio, semi-private, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom setups-rooms come furnished and have private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, telephones, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning, plus wheelchair accessible showers and full tubs. There's a strong focus on comfort, so residents get three meals a day with special dietary options like vegetarian, diabetes-friendly, and allergy-sensitive meals, with all day dining, and the team can prepare and serve food while meeting any special nutrition needs, trying to make sure everyone's eating well. Residents enjoy housekeeping, laundry, and even dry cleaning support, and there's a beautician onsite for hair and grooming.

When it's time for recreation, Heritage Care schedules daily activities and events that include movie nights, music programs, board games, exercise classes, dance, arts and crafts, group walks on garden paths, and social nights, and there's space to gather, such as a movie theater, fitness room, reading and game rooms, library, art studio, spa/wellness room, and outdoor patios or common areas-lots of seniors like to enjoy music therapy, pet therapy, group outings, and devotional services both on site and off. The facility has transportation for shopping trips, medical appointments, errands, and outings for faith services, and residents may also park their own cars if able. Heritage Care works to help people keep their hobbies and maintain social ties, and it tries to keep the environment calm and supportive, especially for those with memory or health issues who can't live alone.

Heritage Care is licensed by the state of North Carolina, and it follows Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity rules, taking in those who may not have relatives to visit them or help them. The staff focus on monitoring residents' well-being and help make changes if someone needs a new roommate or a different living situation, and if short-term or end-of-life care is needed, the community supports aging in place, offering respite and hospice services as needed. Residents can pay with private funds, social security, veteran benefits, or private insurance, and the community charges various fees depending on care level, room type, and additional services like a second person in the unit. Heritage Care allows outdoor smoking and tries to make sure everyone has some freedom while always making sure care and supervision are in place. Both ambulatory and non-ambulatory seniors can find support, even those needing heavier care levels, and the team is attentive to those who might not have family close by, working hard to never leave anyone alone, even near the end of life. Heritage Care aims to make every person feel safe, cared for, and able to enjoy the years ahead in a warm, friendly atmosphere, while providing help with day-to-day needs, medical care, opportunities for fun, and a sense of community.
