    Filthy, unsafe care; inadequate staffing

I'm torn but mostly disappointed. My loved one's stay started okay - friendly staff, good food and activities, and a few very caring employees and managers (shoutout to Stephanie) - but after transfer things declined sharply. The facility was often filthy and smelly (sticky floors, dirty mattresses, bugs/bedbugs/roaches, even feces on beds/clothes), rooms unbearably hot, and staff short-staffed and poorly trained: missed showers, ignored call bells, multiple falls, unsafe transport, medication/insulin concerns, and very poor communication. I regret moving them here and can't recommend it until cleanliness, staffing, training and safety are fixed.

    About Cleveland House

Cleveland House sits over at 950 Hardin Dr. in Shelby and folks say life runs at the pace you need, since it's all about making care fit each resident as their needs change, and you'll see programs lined up to keep people talking, meeting new friends, and staying engaged, whether that's in their community room, out at movie nights, or mingling during fitness classes. The staff stays fully trained, easy to talk with, and always around, helping residents with daily tasks like bathing or handling medication, while there's also help for folks who use wheelchairs or need non-ambulatory care, and the 24-hour call system with 12-16 hour nursing backup means someone's always close by if anything comes up. They run everything from assisted living and memory care focused on folks with Alzheimer's or other dementia, to skilled nursing, independent living, and even a continuing care retirement community, so seniors can move in and age in place if their needs shift, and if someone just needs a break or is recovering, there's respite care daily, weekly, or even monthly. Residents find therapy services through Synchrony Rehab and get extras like aromatherapy, vision health support, structured therapy, and even diabetic care, plus there are activities to promote mental wellness, social connections, and physical activity, with outings, outdoor programs, and plenty to do indoors for folks who prefer it quiet. Rooms come with private bathrooms, kitchens, cable TV, air conditioning, phone lines, Wi-Fi, and they're all furnished for comfort and ease, making the place feel lived in rather than lined up like a hotel, and they're set up for accessibility and close pets, which makes visits easier. Meals are handled by a professional chef, able to take on dietary rules, and the community helps organize everything from fitness programs to spa and sauna use, housekeeping, and even move-in help for people switching from home or the hospital. Cleveland House keeps a steady focus on helping seniors stay active, comfortable, and safe, while giving their family clear resources on long-term care, physical therapy, and insurance, and though the online rating hovers at 2.8 stars from 9 reviews, the community does keep working on comfort, safety, and giving seniors some freedom in daily life.
