    Excellent therapy, dangerous medical neglect

I appreciated the newer, spotless facility and found staff-especially the therapists-friendly, organized, and genuinely helpful: rehab helped me walk, use my arms again, and eat without choking. Communication was generally good and many nurses and aides were attentive and caring. However, my medical care had dangerous lapses-an ankle fracture was ignored by NP/DON/wound staff (vitamin D dosing wasn't explained), I went to the ER and ultimately faced an amputation-so despite excellent therapy, medical oversight was seriously lacking.

    About Vancrest of Ada

Vancrest of Ada accepts both Medicaid and Medicare, which helps a lot for families looking at financial options, and the place has wheelchair access all through the facility, which makes getting around much easier if you use a walker or wheelchair, and they handle community services like move-in coordination and regular laundry or dry cleaning. Residents have emergency alert systems every place you might need them, and the community runs activities and resident engagement events like movie nights, social gatherings, and arts programs, plus there's a resident-run activities group and lots of scheduled daily things to do, so you don't have to worry about being bored. Meals are prepared and served by staff who follow special dietary needs, and they have a dining room, a barber and salon, an arts room, and a library. Walking paths and a garden make it nice to spend time outdoors. Every room is furnished with a telephone, and housekeeping keeps the rooms tidy, which takes a load off your mind.

The staff is known for being compassionate and skilled, and they provide nursing home services, assisted living, skilled nursing care, and memory care programs, and they're part of Vancrest Health Care Centers. Therapies are available through Therapy Solutions and options like Fountain Park Home Care are provided as part of support. Assistance is given with daily needs like bathing, dressing, and transferring, and the staff manages medications and offers 24-hour supervision and a 24-hour call system. Residents get help with moving if they're non-ambulatory and get support in areas needed for independence and dignity.

There are some important things to know though, since it's been found to have deficiencies in areas like resident care planning and nutrition, for example, not always making immediate need plans within 48 hours of admission, and in some cases not serving food according to expected standards. Federal standards for infection control and resident care apply, and inspections have shown 19 deficiencies, including 2 that were infection-related. Nurse turnover is 56.9%, which is a bit higher than many places, and nurse staffing averages 3.86 hours per resident each day. The facility has 60 certified beds and cares for about 54 residents each day on average. Vancrest of Ada operates as a for-profit limited liability company and has a long history with a reputation for caring staff and varied services, but like many facilities, it's had its challenges when it comes to regulations and meeting all care standards. The focus remains on supporting each resident's independence while making sure help is available when needed, and families often appreciate the activities and the community feeling along with the practical services offered.
