    Lovely community, inconsistent and unsafe

I visited many times over four months: the community is beautiful, spotless, and homey with warm front-desk and activities staff, great food, and initially my mom thrived. Unfortunately high staff and management turnover has produced inconsistent, sometimes negligent care - missed therapy, poor hygiene, UTIs/cellulitis/yeast, urine odors, soiled rooms, lost belongings and privacy issues. I also saw defensive/unprofessional leadership, rights violations around a dementia resident (police involved), and billing problems after move-out. When regular nurses are on duty care is excellent; when understaffed it can be unsafe. Recommend only if corporate fixes staffing, transparency, and accountability - otherwise avoid until improvements are made.

About Mason Assisted Living & Memory Care

Mason Assisted Living & Memory Care sits in a quiet part of Mason, Ohio, with green spaces and trees nearby, not far from Main Street and the historic downtown or even Kings Island, so you get that small-town sense but still close to what you need, and walking in, you'll see they keep things easy and comfortable for seniors who need help with daily tasks or memory care, with seventy-five apartments set aside for assisted living and twenty-four for memory care, which means there's a place for folks needing more or less support. They've got things set up for safety, like a 24-hour call system and staff always on hand, from nurse assistants to aides, who help with things like bathing, dressing, and medications, and they always follow the doctor's instructions, which is important for folks with changing health. In the assisted living section, they let you bring your pet, and each apartment has air conditioning and easy access for wheelchairs, and they keep everything maintained for you, including weekly housekeeping and all utilities except your phone and internet, so there are few worries. Meals come from a chef three times a day, and you sit down to eat with others, which can really help folks feel connected, especially with all the restaurant-quality touches and seasonal ingredients.

For memory care, they have special programs like Path to the Present® that help bring structure and belonging for those with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, and they use a Montessori-based approach, so everyone can keep doing things they know, but in a way that's safe and supported, and they even offer The Residence Club™ for people with only mild cognitive challenges, letting them stay in their own apartment but join in with memory care activities, so the transition feels less jarring. Caregivers and nurses are trained to help keep residents engaged and moving with activities shaped by what residents like to do, which changes every month based on feedback, including virtual trips, crafting inspired by eco-friendly ideas, cultural outings, and even celebrations for the seasons.

There's a lot to do and see without leaving-there's a beauty salon, a library full of books, a spacious courtyard for walks or just sitting, demonstration kitchens when folks want to try new recipes, a sky lounge for looking out over the area, and theaters for movies or special events. They also offer community rooms, private places to eat with family, and a wellness center with exercise gear, plus a staff partnership with Legacy Healthcare Services so you can get in-house therapy and check-ins using telemedicine, all to make it easier for folks to get what they need without juggling extra appointments. They welcome visits and tours, showing what day-to-day living looks like, from the meals to the activities, and always keep licensing up to date. Parking's right there, and everything's built to be wheelchair friendly, even the outdoor seating areas. Residents get scheduled rides for errands and appointments, plus the staff stays alert to emergencies day or night. They run cognitive tests like the SLUMS assessment to catch changes in memory or thinking early.

Mason Assisted Living & Memory Care tries to make everyone feel included, with the goal to bring peace and comfort to daily living for people with different needs. Staff and caregivers in the community are known for being attentive and helpful. The place really puts effort into making activities count for every person, working to maintain an environment where seniors can keep their interests and feel at home.
