    Safety cleanliness and care concerns

I had a mixed, mostly negative experience at this small, quaint senior home. Staff coordinators Jen and Tom and caregiver Laura were exceptional and the Covid protocol was excellent, but good staff didn't make up for serious problems. Medication errors, missing meds and suspected staff cover-ups, ignored refusals and a near-comatose incident put safety at risk; smoking near oxygen and male mental-health safety concerns made me uncomfortable. The facility is outdated and underinvested - filthy floors, spider webs, old rooms and a tired dining area - yet charges high fees. Staff were friendly but often unprofessional, not proactive, slow to respond, and belongings went missing; activities were limited. Nice country setting and a pleasant back porch, but I can't recommend this place until major care, safety and cleanliness issues are fixed.

    About Slippery Rock Personal Care

Slippery Rock Personal Care Home sits just outside of town in a quiet, woodsy spot that gives people a peaceful country feeling, and it's set up like a small community so the residents get a lot of personal attention from staff who have worked there for years-some more than ten years, which you don't see too often, and families tend to like the familiar faces. The place has all the basics, like private and shared rooms, and the rooms come with cable, and people can bring their own furniture if they want; there are studio and one-bedroom options, and families can decorate or personalize the spaces, which can help make it feel more like home. They offer meal plans with one or two prepared meals daily, and meals get made fresh from local produce and dairy, plus snacks if people need them, and they're used to making special menus for different diets, so residents don't have to fuss over meal prep.

Residents get all the usual personal care-help with bathing, dressing, getting around, managing medicines, and there's always someone awake and close by all day and night for emergencies or if anyone needs transfers, say, from bed to wheelchair, or help with movement, but if someone needs insulin shots, they'll help with blood sugar checks but can't give injections. They do support people with diabetes and folks who manage their own incontinence needs, and the care levels go from light to heavy, so everyone gets the help they need without much fuss. They've got laundry and housekeeping, all-day dining, access to nearby shops and doctors, and even a few unique things like links to post-incarceration reentry services, which isn't common in every place, and there's a behavioral health recovery program too, with symptom checkers and health libraries people can use.

Social life stays busy with group activities-movie nights, games, walking paths, common rooms for chats, a library-and the residents help run activities and events, so there's real choice about what goes on. There's also a garden, a family-style common room, and a community feeling that helps families feel included when they visit. It's wheelchair accessible, there's an emergency call system, and staff focus on independence and well-being for each person, looking at everyone's life story and personal interests when planning care or activities. They offer both independent and assisted living, plus respite, Alzheimer's, and hospice care if needed, and they're licensed by the state with oversight from experienced healthcare leaders, including a board-certified rehabilitation physician.

Programs there use both state and federal support, including Healthy Resources and Services Administration funding, and the place connects residents to community resources, advocacy, and offsite devotional services. People who want a tour before making a decision can walk through, meet staff, and talk to others living there, which gives families a better feel for what Slippery Rock Personal Care Home is like-a welcoming, lived-in setting where people help each other out and find a sense of belonging.
