    Beautiful community but severe neglect

The community is gorgeous, spotless, and well located with bright apartments, a lovely theater and patio, tasty food, and month-to-month rent that felt like good value. The staff (Carla, Heather, Rita and many others) were overwhelmingly kind, professional and helpful, and the place offers independence and plenty of programs-though cottages and outdoor/walking options are limited. That said, I experienced a severe care lapse - my loved one was left alone nearly 20 hours with missed meds/meals and no bedding changes - so beautiful facility and great people, but that neglect was unacceptable.

    About Highpoint at Fort Mill

Highpoint at Fort Mill sits at 5028 Holloway Dr in Fort Mill, South Carolina, right in York County, and you'll find it offers plenty for seniors in a retirement community, with different options for independent living, assisted living, memory care, and even skilled nursing and continuing care, which means folks can move through different stages of care while staying on one campus, and you can see they've thought about comfort with unit features like cable TV, emergency call systems, kitchenettes, patios or balconies, big closets, washers and dryers, and meal service. The place has a Sales Director named Heather Serfass and a Director named Leslie Walker, and those two, along with an executive director, keep things going, though some people have said communication could be better sometimes, and that's just a natural thing with a place this busy. They've given a lot of thought to safety, putting in features to help keep everyone secure, and there's real care for people's health and happiness, with activities and wellness programs that try to support mind, body, and soul.

Residents and visitors call it a warm and friendly place, where the staff are known for being helpful, joyful, and kind, and you can find about everything you might want, like a beauty and barber salon, game room, movie theater, library, and spots for pets including a dog park with a washing station, which is handy for folks who love animals. The gardens out back show off a lot of colorful trees and the whole setting feels peaceful, while still offering things to do, like playing pickleball on their court, relaxing in a resort-style pool, using the fitness center, or just sitting in a rooftop bar and lounge if you'd rather talk with friends. People who live there can eat chef-prepared meals any time of day in a restaurant-style dining area, and there's transportation services for going out, as well as elevators and a residents' lounge for meeting with neighbors. Some of the amenities even include a movie theater and a library, so there's usually something going on, and staff are there to plan social, recreational, and educational activities.

For folks who want maintenance-free living, the place takes care of housekeeping and chores, letting people choose how to spend their days, and Ageility Rehab Fitness helps residents keep moving and stay as independent as possible. They have independent living for seniors who don't need help, assisted living for people who need support with things like bathing, dressing, or medication, and memory care for those living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, with private studio and one-bedroom deluxe rooms set up to reduce confusion and help prevent wandering. Assisted living has studio deluxe, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts, while independent living has modern floor plans with contemporary finishes and bigger spaces. The staff focus on personalized care, meeting folks' needs as they change, and they offer short-term stays as well. The meals get planned by chefs and meal planners who pay attention to vitamins, minerals, and good ingredients, and there's always something healthy on the table.

They aim to give people a safe, welcoming, and comfortable place to live, with health, safety, and well-being at the center of things, and they keep a focus on innovation while holding onto a friendly, neighborly feeling throughout the community. Folks can pick what works for them, knowing there's always help close by if they need it, and the whole place is designed for seniors looking for a stress-free lifestyle that lets them stay active, social, and connected as the years go by. The community welcomes pets, offers a range of living options, and includes modern safety and convenience features in each residence, with the goal of letting people age in place with dignity and comfort.
