    Friendly, affordable yet maintenance issues

I helped my father move here and overall it's a good choice: friendly, helpful staff, clean, quiet community and affordable for low-income seniors. My main issues were slow maintenance (a parking lot light still isn't fixed), outside upkeep needs improvement, and the application process lacked transparency and clear communication - I couldn't even see an apartment before deciding.

    About J C Bull Apartments

J C Bull Apartments sits at 101 Marion Ave in Spartanburg and offers affordable senior apartments for people with different income needs, with units set aside for those making 30%, 50%, or 80% of the area median income, and residents may qualify for Section 8 project-based rent assistance to help keep costs low. The building includes features to help with everyday accessibility and safety, like handrails, sprinkler systems, cable TV, safety bars, washers and dryers, and easy-to-move-around spaces, and folks can expect on-site maintenance to handle repairs and upkeep. Residents often find the staff friendly, kind, and helpful, and the atmosphere around the place has a happy, welcoming feel where neighbors know each other and take part in social activities. There's a dining room with meal services planned by chefs, laundry and housekeeping help, and spaces like a game room, fitness center, WiFi, and a salon, and the apartments include basic kitchens or kitchenettes for folks who'd rather make their own meals. J C Bull Apartments gives older adults and some with disabilities the choice between independent or assisted living, and the staff help out with personal care like walking or wheelchair help, laundry and cleaning, grooming, and transportation to appointments, so people with different needs find the support they want. Residents also can get involved in health and wellness activities, arts and crafts, educational programs, and the community runs things like the Family Self-Sufficiency and Scholarship programs, along with events such as What Home Means to Me Poster Contest, which lets folks feel connected and purposeful. Some amenities might seem simple, but there's everything from landscaped grounds for pleasant walks to common rooms for games and gatherings, and there's guest parking for family visits. The place sees longer waiting lists, especially for units with rent assistance, so patience's needed for a spot, and everything gets managed by SHASC, with oversight for programs related to the Bond Program, Rental Assistance Demonstration, and community resources through the Housing360 platform. The apartments support a simple and secure way for seniors to live near shopping, medical offices, and parks in Spartanburg, and folks can get help from programs for elderly, disabled, young adults, and families too, so it's a practical option for people who want affordable, sociable, and straightforward living that covers the basics, helps with daily needs, and cares about keeping residents active and comfortable.
