Carolina Gardens at West Columbia is closed, but it was a very large senior living community with 184 beds and offered several types of care including assisted living, memory care for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, hospice, and respite care, and the building had spacious private apartments with studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts, each one with private bathrooms and walk-in showers, some even having kitchenettes, cable TV, internet, and air conditioning, and they used to let people bring some pets as well. The staff provided 24-hour care and supervision with nurse call systems and emergency alert systems for safety, and there were programs for wellness, fitness, regular medical help, medication management, help with daily tasks like bathing or dressing, and even specialized memory care in secure areas to prevent wandering and keep everyone safe. Residents could get three meals a day made by chefs, snacks in between, and a choice of restaurant-style or all-day dining, including options for those who had food allergies or diabetes, and there were on-site laundry and housekeeping services, plus a hair salon, walking paths, community gardens, movie nights, daily social events, a fitness room, outdoor patios, even a library and game room for gathering or relaxing. The place made it easy for active seniors over 55, or sometimes 62 and up, to keep some independence, have plenty of activities, and get support only as they needed, all while having access to free transportation for outings and appointments, and the employees (including dedicated dementia-trained staff) worked from an "Along the Journey" approach so people facing memory loss had routines, music, therapy, physical and social activities that felt familiar. The facility fell under the Priority Life Care group, with leadership from Co-Founder and CEO Sevy Petras, and the community had a $2,000 non-refundable entry fee when open. Carolina Gardens at West Columbia really focused on providing a safe home with many services for older adults who needed support with daily living, memory care, therapy, or even more complex medical needs, hoping to make residents comfortable and encourage social connections, but the facility is currently listed as closed.
