    Beautiful, clean facility with drawbacks

I found a beautiful, updated and impeccably clean facility with warm, attentive staff - care often began with hugs and smiles and my mom is genuinely happy and well cared for. However, there's no green space or walking trails, no stoves in units and no memory-care unit; availability is limited, the location is farther and the cost is higher (around $1,500/month). Most staff were excellent and compassionate, but I also encountered (and heard of) rude interactions and an occasion when long-term questions went unanswered, which was unsettling.

    About Shannondale of Knoxville

Shannondale of Knoxville sits at 801 Vanosdale Road, Knoxville, TN 37909-2497, and goes by the name Shannondale Retirement Home with Angie Schiller as the administrator, offering a range of care and living choices for seniors who want comfort and support all in one place, being a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) run by Covenant Living Communities and Services. There's assisted living for people who need help with everyday activities like bathing, dressing, and taking medicine, with private apartments and helpful staff always around, and memory care services for seniors needing support with confusion or problems caused by dementia, plus a skilled healthcare center providing 24-hour nursing, rehab, and weekly medical consultations, so folks get the attention their care plans call for. Independent living here means picking from apartments, bungalows, duplexes, or villas, with maintenance-free living, on-campus amenities, and the Buckingham neighborhood if someone prefers a cottage, and there's transportation if rides are needed. There's adult day care, home care services with trained aides, and respite care too, giving temporary relief for caregivers and different home support for folks who want to stay in their houses with help.

Rooms come with private balconies or patios, some overlook the putting greens and trees, others have open kitchens with breakfast bars, living rooms with couches and big TVs, views stretching out over the grounds, and nice bathrooms with tubs, so there's comfort and space for folks who want it. Inside, people can use the well-stocked library, indoor heated pool and jacuzzi, activity rooms, game rooms with billiard tables and TVs, and an indoor courtyard with a water fountain, trees, streetlights, and a large clock at the center, which gives a settled feeling. The main lobby has a two-story foyer with a fireplace, wood floors, big columns, and places to gather for meals or events, making for a pleasant environment that isn't cramped or fussy.

Security stays a focus here, since there are monitored emergency call systems, nighttime and 24-hour staff, and nurses always on site if there's trouble. The on-site barber and beauty shop lets folks get a haircut or style, and the wellness center features fitness programs as well as personal training and massage therapy, while Wi-Fi and fast internet cover common areas and residents' rooms. Social, spiritual, and recreational events fill the calendar, from group activities and devotional services to live entertainment and educational get-togethers, and the private dining rooms serve nutritious meals made by chefs and planners who pay attention to what older folks do well with at meal times. Housekeeping, laundry, and room maintenance come with the living options, and transportation gets folks out to appointments, errands, or just around Knoxville.

People can walk in flower-filled gardens, let dogs run at the dog park, enjoy cozy gathering spots to watch TV with neighbors, or join in the different events that the staff makes sure run all week, and this community's known for staff friendliness, high marks from residents, and earning awards for activities and community spirit based on feedback. Nursing assistant (CNA) training happens on site, supporting the health staff and care services, and every resident has their care plan matched to what they need, from independent social life right through to full nursing support when there's illness or injury that needs quick attention. That's how life goes at Shannondale, steady and reliable, for folks who want comfort, social connection, and peace of mind as they age.
