    Lovely facility, staff, but concerns

I toured this beautiful, bright facility and was impressed - spacious one-bed/studio layouts, active programs, a large courtyard, and a home-like memory care unit. Annette's tour and staff like Dustin and the CNAs were outstanding, very caring, responsive, and resident-focused; residents seemed happy and engaged. My concerns: food was poor/limited (often cold or reheated), I saw cleanliness problems and heard reports of mice and serious care lapses from some families (bedsores, missed care), and costs can be high. Overall I'd recommend it for the excellent staff and setting but only with caution and close family oversight.

    About The Retreat at Sunbrook

The Retreat at Sunbrook offers a variety of living options, and folks can choose between assisted living, memory care through the Montessori Moments in Time™ program, personal care, independent living for healthy seniors, and even short-term stays if that's all someone needs, plus apartments here tend to feel much more spacious than elsewhere with options for studios, one-bedrooms, or two-bedrooms, many giving you two bathrooms, a washer and dryer hookup, and a private patio or deck looking out at the surrounding scenery or even panoramic views. The staff stays friendly, fully trained, and available 24 hours a day, offering help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, and anything else most seniors need a hand with, and there's always someone nearby thanks to the emergency call system in every suite. Meals are prepared by a skilled chef, served in inviting dining rooms, and include a salad and soup bar, home-cooked recipes, and options for special diets or therapy needs, and the facility welcomes family and guests to join.

Residents can gather in the many shared areas, whether that's relaxing in a cozy lounge, reading in the library, joining movie nights in the theater, or spending time in outdoor spaces like the gazebo, picnic, putting green, bocce ball, or shuffleboard courts or at a barbecue space when the weather's fine. There's a bathique with a soaking tub, a full-service salon and spa, on-site beautician, and even a Snoezelen sensory room for calming sensory experiences, which is important for the memory care group. You'll also find a computer center, high-speed Wi-Fi, regular devotional services on-site, and housekeeping with laundry all taken care of while utilities (everything except phone) get covered, giving peace of mind that's really helpful for many seniors.

Those who like to stay busy can join in daily activities, social events, educational classes, or special outings since transportation's part of the offering, and the varied programs make sure no one's left out, even running two separate activity programs to meet different needs, including clubs, support groups, and scheduled events. The structured schedule encourages folks to be active, socialize during family-style meals or with friends, engage their minds and bodies, and join scenic outdoor walks or indoor gatherings, which can be really important for anyone who doesn't just want to sit in their room all day. Pets are allowed here and the grounds are kept accessible, handy for anyone with mobility needs, and the focus on whole-body wellness shows through all the programs and spaces, which really help people keep their independence as long as possible. The Retreat at Sunbrook's memory care section keeps residents safe and secure, using its own approach that builds on understanding a person's history and preferences, so care's more personal and supportive while trying to reduce confusion or agitation, especially for those dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia.

Because the building sits close to shopping, restaurants, and medical offices, loved ones can visit easily or residents can run an errand with staff support. The schedule runs year-round, so there's always help, activities, and home-cooked meals waiting, and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere tends to remind folks more of a cozy neighborhood than an institution, which makes it a good fit for many seniors who want both independence and the right amount of support when they need it.
