    Pretty facility but care concerns

I moved my mom here and overall I like the place - bright, clean rooms with windows and views, lovely grounds (there are even rabbits), a music room, dining hall and lots of well-run activities; staff are mostly polite, caring and helpful and the memory-care wing is clean and activity-focused. That said, communication and privacy/recordkeeping have been problematic at times, there have been worrying lapses (missed meds, poor night-team responses) and I've heard reports of abrupt evictions. It's expensive, but my mom adjusted well and many staff are excellent - worth touring, but ask direct questions about meds, night care and policies.

About Commonwealth Senior Living At Abingdon

Commonwealth Senior Living at Abingdon sits in a spot where folks can find assisted living, memory care, independent living, and short-term stays, so families have choices depending on what kind of care a person needs. The place offers companion and private suites with their own bathrooms and different floor plans, so residents can pick what suits them best, and there's even room for small pets like cats and dogs under 25 pounds, which helps some folks feel more at home. Right now, renovations are happening to update buildings and services, so things may look a little different depending on when you visit. The community runs programs like Sweet Memories for residents living with Alzheimer's or dementia, where staff help reduce confusion and prevent wandering, and there's something called the SingFit program, which uses music therapy to help people feel connected and happy, and a "Travel the World" program that brings some variety to activities.

Assistance covers everything from bathing and dressing, all the way to medication management and even dining help, and registered nurses are there around the clock, so health needs get attention at any hour. Each resident gets an individualized care plan, which means the care is matched to what a person actually needs and changes when their needs do. Staff can help with toileting, exercising, and more. There's a full activities calendar, led by a director, with things like trips out, daily exercises, games, and social programs, which gives folks chances to remain active and meet others. The dining program uses local produce and seafood, offers nutritious meals, and even encourages residents to give feedback on the menus, so meals don't get dull, plus the community keeps things bright and cheerful with plenty of natural light and sitting areas to relax. Residents can walk outside in the landscaped gardens or sit on patios, which are set up for safety and comfort.

Folks who only need a place to stay for a little while, perhaps after a hospital stay or while family is away, can use respite care. Skilled nursing is right on site for people needing more medical attention than typical assisted living, and there's an emergency call system along with staff trained to respond 24 hours a day, which can ease some worries for families. The place allows continued changes in care, so if someone starts in independent living but later needs more support, they can stay on the same campus. Housekeeping and linen services happen every week, taking some chores off residents' plates, and Wi-Fi is available around the community for any who want it. The place is known for being welcoming and friendly, winning awards for its social activities, which help people not feel lonely, and for the Sweet Memories program that's won some recognition as well. Resources for seniors, veterans, and families are also easy to find here, and there's a big library for learning about caregiving, health, and other senior needs. The staff and programs aim to give residents a safe, comfortable home with supports for whatever stage of aging they're in, whether they just want to live on their own or need help day to day.
