Carrington Cottage Memory Care sits near Carvins Cove Recreation Area, easy to reach and peaceful, with four Colonial-style neighborhoods that each have less than twelve people living together, and each neighborhood has private or semi-private suites with beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which is nice because everyone gets a bit of privacy while still feeling like part of a small family group, and the whole thing is built for seniors with Alzheimer's or other memory concerns, so there are secure entryways, emergency call bells in every room, and a steady staff who really get to know residents' needs and routines. Every day, the kitchen staff serves three nutritious family-style meals, and there's always help with dressing, bathing, dining, and taking medicine, because it's hard to handle those things alone sometimes, and there's a nurse on-site all day and night, which helps keep everyone calm. The schedule includes group events and things to do like art, music, bingo, and pet visits, with a full-time Activities Director planning things through their Life Enrichment Program, so there's time for fun or creative or spiritual activities, and even a "Country Music Park" with a walking path, plus gardens and patios if anyone wants a quiet moment outside. Staff here receive special training for memory care and work closely with families on personalized care plans, checking in on everything from health and medicine to social life, transportation, planning, and long-term arrangements, so the care changes as needs change, and the environment feels homey and safe thanks to familiar faces and steady support. Residents can stop by the internet café or the snack bar, hang out in the lounge, pop into common rooms, and enjoy the easy mountain views. Carrington Cottage Memory Care offers all-inclusive rates, which cover everything from meals and care to housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and round-the-clock staff. It's a quiet, friendly place attached to the Carrington Places group, and it links into larger resource networks like VirginiaNavigator, SeniorNavigator, disAbilityNavigator, VeteransNavigator, and the Lindsay Institute to help with information about legal help, financial planning, caregiving, transportation, benefits-pretty much any practical support that's needed. The community has a big resource library with more than 26,000 programs and services, and has sections for veterans, seniors, caregivers, and people with disabilities, with curated guides, books, videos, and links, so residents and their families can discover answers and local events easily if they ever need help, whether it's with employment, health, housing, or social engagement.

- Memory care
Nice facility but safety concerns
I liked the modern, spotless building, spacious rooms, appealing meals and the lively activities - several staff I met were warm, attentive and clearly cared. But I also saw chronic understaffing, high leadership turnover and inconsistent care: hygiene and medication errors, delayed diaper changes, falls and families having to hire private help or bring supplies. Memory care and infection control were unreliable, and some families reported poor communication or rude office responses. It's promising in looks and some staff, but I would hesitate to recommend it until staffing, safety and management improve.
