    Compassionate staff but safety concerns

I placed my husband here and overall I'm grateful - the staff are warm, loving and genuinely attentive, the building is newly refurbished, spotless and home-like with lovely grounds, activities, music and pastor visits. Administrator Robin's 20 years and passion are evident; staff go out of their way and include families in care. However, management and safety concerns have arisen - poor communication, an unsafe late-night discharge incident, restrictions on outside caregivers, occasional understaffing and small/outdated bathrooms - and the food can be hit-or-miss. I highly recommend this place for its compassionate staff and atmosphere, but urge families to stay vigilant about management and safety.

About Renaissance Assisted Living of Greene County

Renaissance Assisted Living of Greene County sits in Stanardsville, Virginia, and operates as a senior living community called both Renaissance Assisted Living and The Harbor at Renaissance, offering different levels of support through assisted living and dedicated memory care for those with Alzheimer's or behavioral needs, and it does all this within a friendly and safe environment that's been remodeled as recently as 2013 so things feel fresh enough without being fancy. The place has around 64, or possibly 25, assisted living units depending on the source, and offers private apartments or studios so residents have some privacy along with shared indoor common areas where people can join in on community activities, including devotional time and group trips offsite. Staff have training for a wide range of health care needs, including diabetic and insulin support, high acuity care, help with blood sugar checks, and incontinence assistance, and there are licensed nurses on site around the clock, which means residents usually get the help they need regardless of the hour and help with medication management isn't a problem. For those with dementia or prone to wandering, the community puts a strong focus on safety with high-tech wander guards and a property designed to be secure to prevent exit-seeking, and for people who struggle sometimes with aggressive behavior, the staff go through special training to respond calmly and helpfully.

The Harbor at Renaissance houses the memory care program, and staff there support residents with a structured environment and monitoring for well-being, and the whole community tries to make life easier with wheelchair-accessible showers, assistance with daily things like bathing, grooming, dressing, plus regular housekeeping and laundry. When residents need rides to appointments or just want to go to social events in town, the complimentary transportation services help and make things less complicated. Daily meals, including vegetarian options, get served in a comfortable dining room that encourages people to come together and talk, and there are always activities to keep life interesting, plus the community holds a spiritual vibrancy that shows in regular devotional offerings for those who want to participate. The goal here centers around making sure residents keep as much independence as possible while tailoring support through personalized care plans, and with a team under a senior executive director, Amber Ralls-who comes with nursing experience-the leadership tries hard to respect the dignity and individuality of every person. The culture has always tried to create a welcoming, home-like atmosphere built on faith, respect, and honor, and it's part of Legacy Senior Living, which operates several other communities focused on life and legacy. While there's only one public review with a low score, meaning there isn't much public feedback, the resources here include respite care, special care for veterans, memory support, and programs meant to enrich lives through purpose and meaningful daily connections. The community makes use of online platforms for people who want to connect or find more information, and while nobody claims it's perfect, folks here seem to put peace of mind, safety, and genuine care at the top of the list.
