    Wonderful staff, excellent care, overcharged

I found the staff wonderfully warm and helpful and the small, family-run facility spotless, quiet, and homey with home-cooked meals and outdoor barbecues. Unfortunately it wasn't the right fit for us - the location was inconvenient, the price too high, and after being denied admission I was charged over $6,000 for one night, promised a refund that never came and experienced rude administrative treatment. Overall excellent care and atmosphere, but serious billing/fit issues kept me from recommending it.

    About Oak Grove Manor

Oak Grove Manor sits on 8 Rainbow Lane in Waynesboro, Virginia, right in a quiet, pretty valley with rolling hills, and you really do feel the small-town pace when you drive up to it since it's been serving local families for over 30 years, so people tend to know the place, and it has a reputation for feeling homelike and friendly where staff take time to make residents and their families feel welcome and treated like they belong there. The community is licensed for 23 residents, so there's an intimate feel, and you find both private and semi-private rooms, each with their own bathroom fitted with a grab bar and shower bench, and some rooms have furnishings and phones included, plus Wi-Fi and cable TV in the rooms, and the common areas have plenty of seating, television, and gathering spaces that folks seem to use a lot, especially with the pretty garden and walking paths outside. People can get help with daily needs like dressing, bathing, grooming, and medication management from trained staff who are there and awake around the clock, and the staff have special training for seniors who need help with memory care, and they pay extra attention to making it feel supportive and safe especially for those with Alzheimer's or dementia with activities meant to keep people engaged and comfortable. The place offers a lot to keep folks busy: there are arts and crafts, music, educational lessons, tabletop games, group outings, fitness and wellness programs, gardening sessions, and social gatherings like movie nights and resident-run activities, with owners getting involved personally in the different programs and making sure there's something for everyone; there's always an emphasis on making people feel included and active.

Dining is handled in a communal dining room where they serve three home-cooked meals every day, and you can ask for guest meals too, plus special nutrition needs like low-sugar, no-sodium, vegetarian, or kosher options are available, and people who enjoy eating at different times can make requests, not having to stick to fixed mealtimes. They take care of almost all housekeeping, laundry, fresh linens, and maintenance, and utility bills are included in the monthly rate except for cable and phone service, so you mostly settle in and let them handle the chores and the bills. The facility also has a beauty salon and barber shop on-site, and they bring in religious services and a visiting chaplain for those who want them, along with structured programs that focus on everyone's independence and well-being. Residents can bring their pets and will find a parking lot and guest parking available, plus staff arrange rides to doctor visits and local shops with scheduled transportation, making it easier for folks who still want to get out and do things. Oak Grove Manor aims to help older adults stay involved and independent but have reliable help nearby whenever needed; the small size and commitment from the staff-and the owners themselves-are what people talk about the most, and with plenty of simple pleasures, engaging activities, and steady care it's a place where seniors can settle in and feel respected and cared for.
