    Great care, but security issues

I love the community - friendly, welcoming staff, excellent care, well-maintained facilities and great food. However, security is lax: gates are often unlocked, a back garage door opens to the alley, and my parent (not an escape artist) walked out, fell in the parking lot and was found by police and taken to the hospital. I'm extremely pleased with day-to-day care, but I would not recommend this place for anyone who wanders unless the perimeter/security is fixed.

    About Aacorn Oaks

Aacorn Oaks Manor II is a small community in San Diego with fourteen residents and offers a range of senior care services depending on what people need, like assisted living, memory care, board and care, independent living, skilled nursing services, hospice care, home care, and adult daycare. The facility has both private and semi-private rooms, even some one-bedroom selections, and you'll see that the rooms can come fully furnished, with options like maid service, safety features, and emergency call systems, and there's Wi-Fi, telephone lines, TV, and on-site maintenance as well. The atmosphere feels home-like, and the staff focus on making residents comfortable and treating them kindly, with family members staying well-informed. Residents can bring their pets along, and there are strict no-smoking policies inside.

Memory care gets a lot of attention here, especially for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, so the building stays secure, and staff are trained for specialized care, planning memory-enhancing activities just for those residents. The staff help with bathing, dressing, medication management, laundry, and regular check-ins, and there's always someone around, since support is offered 24 hours a day. There are also transportation services for trips to medical appointments or outings, though parking for visitors is a bit limited. Nurses and a doctor are available on call, and specialties like incontinence care, diabetic meals, wound care, rehabilitation, high-acuity care, and coordination with health care providers are also available, making sure residents' health needs get met in a way that fits each situation.

Communal living gets supported by meals prepared three times a day with plenty of options, including diabetic and low sodium meals, healthy snacks, and chef-planned menus, and the dining area is shared so folks can eat together. You'll find regular schedules for on-site activities like exercise programs, religious services, arts and crafts, education, and outings so residents can stay busy and engaged, and there's a TV area, media lounge, outdoor garden spaces, and beautician and barber services too. The grounds are clean and landscaped, and staff help keep up with housekeeping and maintenance, so daily chores are taken care of.

The community has won praise for its friendly environment, good meals, and engaging activities, with a steady reputation for making people feel welcome and at ease. People who need more support than they'd get living alone, but who don't require nursing home level care, tend to settle in here, whether that means help with the basics or more complex health needs. Aacorn Oaks Manor II runs with an open schedule all day, every day, and while it doesn't have a big parking lot, it makes up for that with its close-knit feel, social activities, and steady commitment to meeting different care needs as residents age. Residents and visitors mention the clean facility, friendly staff, and a sense that people are looked after with honesty and respect. The community sits at 6207 Acorn, San Diego, CA 92115, and more details are listed at acornoaksmanorsd.com.
