Capitol Vila is a residential care home that provides a mix of assisted living, independent living, and memory care services, and the staff stay on site 24 hours a day so residents always have help available if they need it, whether that means help with dressing, eating, or moving around, and they've got in-home care, diabetic care, high acuity care, memory care to help reduce confusion and prevent wandering, and other health services like incontinence care and non-ambulatory support, so people who need a little more help can get it without losing their independence and those who can get around on their own have the space and support to stay active, with well-kept outdoor areas, gardens, walkways, and even things like courtyards, koi ponds, and boutique shops on the grounds. Capitol Vila offers three meals a day, laundry, housekeeping, on-site haircuts, podiatry, and massage services, and they try to keep residents engaged with routines and activities meant to promote both social interaction and physical activity, and you can usually find opportunities for walking, exercise, or relaxing in outdoor spaces like the backyard, plus programs that aim to support memory and prevent confusion for those who need it. The facility puts focus on independence and personalized care, so each person gets services that fit their needs, and the overall setting tries to make people feel comfortable and safe, with attention paid to overall wellness and a sense of community.
Homey small houses, caring staff
I toured a cluster of five small, homey houses (6 beds each) run 15 years with multiple San Jose locations. I liked the caring, alert staff, on-site provider for appointments, tailored meals, and the big, well-kept backyard - my family's first impression was positive. Residents seemed happy and short (1-2 month) stays are possible. Downsides: living areas are small and dark, cluttered kitchen affected cleanliness, and medical care beyond meds is limited (you'd need outside skilled nursing). Rooms are private or semi-private; cost is $2,500-3,000 (a bit higher but includes most care; some personal supplies and admin/med lockup aren't included).
