    Spacious community, excellent care, pricey

I placed my mom here and have been very impressed: spacious apartments, excellent food, friendly and attentive staff who feel like family, and outstanding nursing/therapy-she had successful post-surgical rehab. The community is vibrant with loads of activities (pools, adult learning, photography, bus trips, a beautiful library), clean and well-run. My only caveats are cost and access-it's pricey, fees rise with level of care, there can be a waiting list, small one-bedrooms lack closet space, no dogs are allowed, and I noticed some AC and landscaping issues.

    About University Retirement Community

University Retirement Community provides several living options including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, and you'll also find continuing care retirement communities and other care choices all on the same campus, so if a resident's health changes, care can adjust too, which is handy. The community includes wellness activities, fitness classes, and therapy programs, with a large therapy gym, an office area, and an OT kitchen in the memory care unit, which makes it easier for residents to work on different skills every day, and you won't find many places where the therapy team includes one therapist with aquatic certification, so there's more variety there as well. It also stands out for offering caregiver training through the therapy team and keeps separate directors for outpatient rehab and for the rehab inside the healthcare center, making sure each area runs smoothly. There's a healthcare center that supports folks with short-term rehab after illness or surgery and for those who need longer-term care, and the skilled nursing facility stays on-site to help residents who need more medical support. Assisted living services offer help with daily tasks, while memory care specializes in support for adults living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, using spaces and routines that meet their needs. The different homes are flexible-you find single-story cottages with two or three bedrooms, up to 1,565 square feet, and there are also spacious one- to three-bedroom apartments, each with their own private balcony, so folks can pick what fits best. Meal services provide daily feasts to suit many tastes. There are activity programs helping residents build routines and stay active, and offerings that focus on strengthening both body and mind. Every care type aims to give people what they need as they get older, so there's a Life Plan Community model, which means residents can plan for changing care over time while staying in one place. Many of the amenities and features carry unique names, making them easy to spot and helping the whole community keep its own character.
