    Luxury resort-like community highly recommended

I moved in and it truly feels like a five-star, resort-like community - gorgeous, meticulously kept grounds and very spacious, well-appointed rooms. The dining is exquisite, staff are warm, attentive and professional, and the list of amenities is endless (pool, gym, salon, putting green, dog park, on-site rehab, nursing and memory care, free town car for appointments, 24/7 gated security and resident location devices). It's high-end and pricey, often with a waitlist and occasional pressure to accept more expensive units - do your homework and confirm medical/unit availability. Overall my experience has been overwhelmingly positive and I'm glad I moved here.

    About University Village Thousand Oaks

University Village Thousand Oaks sits across from the California Lutheran University campus in Thousand Oaks, right in scenic Ventura County with picturesque hills, rock outcroppings, rolling valleys, and open space, and when you walk the lush, landscaped paths you might see the mountain view or the community pond or maybe even two dog parks, and with more than 65 acres, you've got plenty of room to breathe and stretch your legs, whether you want to walk or just sit outside. The community's got villas, garden terrace residences, and apartment homes, most with private patios or balconies, private bathrooms, and emergency call systems, and all are built for comfort, safety, and some independence for seniors who want their own space. There are features like elevators, a gated main entry, and plenty of walking paths so no one feels boxed in, and the setting stays peaceful because it's surrounded by nature rather than busier neighborhoods.

You'll find a focus on comfortable, simple living rather than frills, with community spaces like a formal dining room, a private dining area, a casual restaurant-style lounge, a library, lounge areas, a card and game room, fitness center, and an outdoor pool with places to sit with friends. For recreation, there's a bocce ball court, a putting green, croquet, tennis, and regular activities, and residents enjoy lectures through something called the University at University Village series if they want to learn or listen. The grounds also include a beauty salon and barbershop, plus transportation services for appointments or errands, so people don't have to worry about getting around if they don't drive.

Living plans use a one-time, largely repayable entrance fee along with a monthly service fee that depends on the home or villa you pick, and all of it is meant to stay clear and simple. Folks get help with things like cleaning and laundry, and there's an electric charging station for those using electric cars. University Village operates as a Continuing Life® retirement community with options for Independent Living if you want to stay active and on your own, Assisted Living for help with daily activities, Memory Care for those living with Alzheimer's or dementia, and Skilled Nursing for higher care needs, plus there's Adult Day Care and Home Health Care on-site. If care requirements ever increase, always-available long-term care services are part of the plan, and everything stays under one roof so you don't have to worry about moving to another facility. Each level of support aims to help folks live well, with services and care personalized, and the staff includes nursing, hospitality, maintenance, marketing, and transportation teams.

The community offers guides and planning resources for costs, including columns on using home sale proceeds, insurance, veteran benefits, or help from Medicare, Medicaid, and possible tax benefits. Senior housing at University Village is built for adults who want independence but also appreciate support, safety, a good setting, and neighbors close by, and anyone who wants to be social or needs some assistance can find what works best for their situation. Residents and their families come to rely on clear, easy access to choices with simple, daily routines and a good atmosphere, and the place looks after those who've decided they want a healthy retirement lifestyle that's peaceful, active, and supported by friendly faces.
