    Clean facility, serious safety concerns

I have mixed feelings. The facility is clean and homey, and many nurses, aides and therapists were kind, professional, and helped with a smooth admissions/rehab. However I also witnessed/experienced serious problems - frequent understaffing, rude or hostile caregivers, ignored or disabled call buttons, residents left in soiled linens, strong urine/feces odors, cold/inedible meals, poor communication, refusal to identify staff, unexpected billing increases and promised services not delivered, plus safety lapses (falls, delayed care, medication issues). Given those safety and oversight concerns, I cannot recommend this place.

    About Quail Haven Retirement Village

Quail Haven Retirement Village sits in a peaceful area near Pinehurst Village and Southern Pines, with mature trees, lush landscaping, and walking paths everywhere you look, and you find that the whole place keeps a quiet, homey feel with one-story Garden Apartment Homes in a range of sizes, plenty of green space, and no long halls to worry about. The apartments have floor plans from 520 to over 1,400 square feet, with one to three bedrooms, big bathrooms with walk-in showers, and many have private patios for relaxing outside, and residents can choose flexible rental options, either short or long-term. The whole village feels open because of the low-density grounds, screened by mature trees and shrubs, and the walking paths, outdoor patios, and gardens make it easy for people to enjoy fresh air or chat with friends outside. Inside, the places-like the Central Clubhouse, Village Dining Room, Activities Building, Library, Chapel, and Salon-give folks easy spots to socialize, play games, read, worship, or just sit quietly, and there's always something going on with planned activities, outings, social gatherings, and day trips, thanks to the Life Enrichment program and the Lifestyle Director, who set up all sorts of events to keep everyone moving and connecting.

There's a strong emphasis on both independence and getting help when it's needed, so some seniors live completely on their own in independent living, while others use assisted living support or need more care, and the campus is set up with The Inn at Quail Haven, a health center offering Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Rehabilitation, Home Care, and even short-term respite and hospice care. The Inn has private rooms, furnished options, and their Rehab Recovery Suites help folks get back on their feet with occupational, physical, and speech therapy, all run by a trained clinical team using advanced technology and working with each person to tailor the care and try to keep hospital readmissions low. Everyone who needs it gets 24-hour security, emergency medical response, regular health consultations, and support for daily needs, and there's a memory care cottage called Cardinal for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, which provides a home-like setting and structured programs related especially to memory support. The community manages both family and resident councils, letting everyone share opinions, and it's part of a CCRC model, so residents can move among different levels of care as needs change without having to leave home.

Residents eat chef-prepared meals in a dining room that looks out over the grounds, with daily specials, soups, salads, desserts, and monthly themed events that make mealtimes a social highlight, and guest meals are always welcome. Services like professional housekeeping, linen service, all utilities except phone, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, seasonal removal for snow and leaves, landscaping, pest control, maintenance, 24-hour security, and scheduled as well as personal transportation are covered for convenience and peace of mind. There's a well-stocked library, salon and beautician on-site, spa, game rooms, social areas, chapel, activities building, and outdoor spaces with lots of seating, shaded pergolas, and mature trees offering shade, plus complimentary memberships to the FirstHealth Fitness Center and chances for golf outings at the Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst help people stay fit and active. The community uses a rental model with all-inclusive fees starting at $3,760 per month, and the combination of independence, care options, outdoor space, and easy access to help-whether it's for meals, home care, transportation, or daily chores-means residents can focus on comfort, enjoyment, and their own well-being. Folks can stay connected with social media, photo galleries highlight community life, and everything is set up to keep people engaged and feeling safe while letting them enjoy as much independence as they want.
