    Clean caring home, staffing concerns

I placed a loved one here and found a very clean, well-maintained, home-like community with genuinely caring staff, strong therapy, good meals and lots of activities on pleasant grounds. That said, staffing shortages, occasional rude or unresponsive employees and a few safety/response incidents are real concerns. Overall I'm satisfied and would choose it for a family member, but I'd tour carefully and ask about staffing and safety.

    About Valley View Retirement Community

Valley View Retirement Community sits on 56 acres in Belleville, Pennsylvania, and offers a wide range of living options for seniors, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Personal Care, Skilled Nursing, and a Continuing Care Retirement Community structure, so residents can age in place and get extra help as their needs change, and even though there hasn't been new construction in a while, the place still manages to feel warm and welcoming because the staff know the residents well and treat everyone with care and patience. The campus has 141 Residential Living Cottages in six different styles, most of them with two bedrooms, a bath, and a garage, and folks can pick out their own appliances and floor coverings, while Personal Care Suites offer help with daily tasks, and the Manor at Perry Village Skilled Nursing Center offers both private and semi-private rooms, along with accommodations for couples, and the Health Center supports hospice and respite care.

Residents get meals cooked by a professional chef who can prepare special diets like diabetes-friendly or allergy-sensitive food, and people can enjoy restaurant-style dining, communal meals, and even guest meals if family visit, plus there's a café called The Courtyard Cafe which is open to the public during lunch on weekdays. Rooms come furnished with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, cable TV, private bathrooms, kitchenettes, and telephones, and everyone has access to daily housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance, and there's always staff around, with nursing care varying from 12 to 16 hours a day and a 24-hour call system for emergencies.

The grounds have walking paths, gardens, an outdoor wellness area with a spa and sauna, along with indoor community spaces like a theater, game room, activity rooms, arts room, library, and chapel. Fitness and wellness programs are always running, as are games, hobbies, facilitated outings, movie nights, and music and arts events, and folks get activities both organized by the staff and run by residents themselves, so nobody runs out of things to do. The place is known for its Memory Care services-designed specifically for those living with dementia to help prevent wandering and confusion, and they've been awarded for being a top memory care and nursing home provider in Pennsylvania, winning recognition from U.S. News & World Report, The Lewistown Sentinel, and Pennsylvania Business Central, along with being cited as a top five nursing home in the state by Newsweek.

Healthcare services stay comprehensive, with physical, occupational, and speech therapy available, plus medication management, on-site doctor and nurses, and plenty of help with personal needs such as bathing and dressing. There's an emergency alert system, parking lot, transportation for medical visits, shopping trips, and personal travel, and even onsite notary services. Residents have the option to get their hair cut or styled right on-site at the beauty salon and barbershop, and besides usual services like housekeeping and linen service, the staff also help with move-in coordination and family support.

Special amenities include a gift shop, resident gardens, woodshop, overnight guest accommodations at Mildred & Lena's Place, and photos of the community for people interested in taking a tour themselves. Valley View welcomes folks from all walks of life and keeps to its non-profit status, striving to remain affordable while providing a high standard of care, which is probably why so many people say it feels like home, especially since it's part of the Presbyterian Senior Living network that serves the mid-Atlantic region. For those needing extra medical support, the community has 160 skilled nursing beds, 79 personal care suites, and upgrades on the way for private nursing care rooms, plus they offer short-stay nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term care, making it a solid choice for people who want to live somewhere they can settle down in for a long time if they want to.
