    Beautiful campus but understaffed care

I've lived here 10+ years. The campus and interiors are beautiful and homey - luxurious common areas, attractive grounds, varied housing (apartments, cottages, homes), large new units with full kitchens, in-unit laundry, patios and walk-in showers/closets. Independent living has been excellent: helpful tour staff, great activities (Bingo, cards, yoga, theater), multiple dining rooms with good food, fitness complex/pool/sauna, shuttle/transportation to appointments, and 24-hour emergency services. That said, it's outrageously expensive, some rooms can feel cramped, and I've seen declines in care quality - assisted living and skilled nursing are understaffed and inattentive at times (unresolved HELP-light issues, maintenance needs). Management needs to prioritize staffing and pay. Overall I'd recommend this for independent living but would not trust their assisted living/skilled nursing without major improvements.

About Longwood At Oakmont Retirement Community

Longwood At Oakmont Retirement Community sits on over 60 acres in the Pittsburgh area, and it offers a range of living and care options for seniors who want a safe and supportive place to live, so some folks move in when they're quite healthy and active, enjoying independent living neighborhoods with over 40 different floor plans and all sorts of amenities like spacious dining rooms with all-day dining options, swimming pools, putting greens, arts rooms, gardens, and even walking trails for daily strolls, while others find what they need in smaller board and care homes tucked into nearby neighborhoods where care feels more personal and home-like because staff helps a small group of residents each day. The community's designed so people can age in place, starting in independent living with maintenance-free apartments where meals, housekeeping, linen service, and transportation can all be handled by staff, and then, if more help's needed, moving on to assisted living where caring staff is always around to help with things like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, and meal preparation, and if memory becomes a concern, there's a memory care section with 24-hour support, supervision, and specialized programs for folks living with Alzheimer's or dementia, plus secured areas and activities that try to keep minds engaged and spirits high. When medical needs become more serious, Longwood At Oakmont also has skilled nursing and rehabilitation with round-the-clock care, wound care, and help after hospital stays for people needing a higher level of support, and there's even short-term respite care for those coming just for a little while to recover or to give family caregivers a break. The grounds feature community amenities that include a gym, a barber and salon, emergency alert systems for safety, and a 24-hour call system, and the staff goes out of their way to organize social events, movie nights, clubs, and educational programs, so it's easy for folks to find old friends or make new ones, and there's a move-in coordinator to help with planning and settling in. Meals can be customized for allergies or diabetes, rooms come furnished for convenience if needed, and there's always attention on keeping things safe, comfortable, and engaging, so residents can thrive during every stage of retirement with flexible plans that let them adjust care as their needs change, and there are plenty of choices for people who want to live actively with support, real connections, and opportunities for new experiences right outside their door.
