    Chronically understaffed and unsafe care

I would not recommend this place. In my experience it's chronically understaffed and poorly managed - residents are often neglected (slow/no call-light response, not turned or washed), rooms and linens are filthy and smelly, food and supplies are low quality, communication and phone access are unreliable, and there are serious concerns about discrimination. A few nurses, CNAs and therapists were kind and competent, but overall the care felt unsafe and unacceptable.

    About Springdale Health Care Center

Springdale Health Care Center sits at 146 Battleship Rd in Camden, South Carolina, and has a strong focus on patient care and comfort, being a nursing home facility that cares for seniors across many health stages, so whether someone's active and healthy, needs a bit more help, or lives with dementia, the staff-nurses, aides, and special can staff-work day and night to provide skilled nursing care, assisted living, and memory care, all under one roof, in a 148-bed setting. Springdale uses different names and programs for its care services, so people get help that fits their needs, and the staff goes beyond the basics, offering tailored rehabilitation, physical therapy, and fall risk support, with a special nod to its therapy animal visits and palliative care program, which seem to brighten up the place. They hold events, arts programs, and music therapy internships, promoting emotional and social health with continued activities and organized evening gatherings-a good chance for residents to talk and connect after supper. Residents get chef-prepared meals, balanced by meal planners, and for those who need it, help with bathing, dressing, and medication. The place is clean and well-kept, with safe equipment, although some equipment needs updates, and there have been some reports of falls, and now and then a resident might feel unsettled or need to call for help, which does happen in most centers like this. Springdale also connects with the wider community through outreach, partnering with nearby nursing homes, schools like Camden Middle School and Montessori School of Camden, and hosting nutrition visits, food distribution, and back-to-school events, which brings more people together and keeps things lively. They run special mobile library stops, the Book Van, and Bookmobile routes throughout Kershaw County, delivering books, DVDs, and comics-plus Homebound Services bring library materials at no cost to those who can't get out, and it's an unusual amenity that adds to daily life. There's a hotline called InTouch so families, residents, and staff can speak up if they have concerns, and Springdale has won awards for being well kept, for having good activities, and for creating an overall friendly and organized community, since many folks mention the helpful and caring staff regularly. Medical help's available around the clock, with services covering inpatient and outpatient care, second opinions, record requests, and clear billing, with protection for patient and family rights, and options for financial help. They follow strong cleaning routines and visitor rules, following all the COVID guidelines, and staff stay up-to-date about safety and keep things tidy. The facility doesn't open on weekends-it's only open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.-and offers visitors things like dining and parking, while residents enjoy amenities such as hotel accommodations for guests, gift shops, chapels with pastoral care, and outreach for arts and healing, plus ongoing education and help from volunteer and interpreter programs. For safety, there are nurses, aides, and security in place, and patient rights info's always easy to find, and folks looking for advice can talk to local senior living advisors for guidance. Reviews mention an overall sense of kindness and care-a place where joy and helpfulness stand out, and where activities, meals, and social routines keep everyone involved as much as they want to be.
